    Need some advice

So, my boy Louie just turned 5 a couple weeks ago, and has always been healthy, until lately. I am just looking for some experienced lab parents to give some feedback.

He's always been a tank, high energy, indestructible, bad ass dog.

Until 3 months ago, we knew something wasn't right, long story short, we had to have surgery to remove part of his intestine which had become perforated. A week later, he was back to his tough self.

Couple weeks ago for his birthday we went swimming he was fine.

Lately I've noticed him having difficulty with his back half. He doesn't go his usually depth to take a pee, and when he gets up from laying down, really has to labor to get his back half up.

I'm wondering if he could've pulled a muscle, if 5 is too young to show arthritis or anything. He doesn't seem to be in any great pain, but even sitting for a treat seems to be something he's trying to avoid. We have his yearly vet visit coming up soon, and we are in the middle of moving to our new house, so funds are tight. After spending 4500 on his surgery I am scared to death if something could be wrong.

Does this sound familiar to anybody?

My concern would be that it could be some kind of post-surgery complication. I'd call the vet and run it by him/her....see if it sounds like something likely. I wouldn't put it off till the next visit...even if the next visit is within the next few weeks.

Easiest thing to do would be to put the dog on joint supplements but if something is really wrong, you'll need the vet to diagnose that. Age doesn't matter, things happen unfortunately. You'll probably need bloodwork done and maybe xrays of the hips?

Well, we have kind of massaged his belly and he has his full desire to eat, so I am not thinking it's related. The day we needed to have surgery he wouldn't eat, and his belly was very sore...He just really seems to be favoring one leg when sitting/getting up. He can walk fine and still has a strong desire to go for walks.

When he favors a leg, does he do any toe-touching, or is it full weight limping? Could be an injured CCL, but hard to say.

i too, would be concerned that it may (but probably isn't but i'd check) be related to something with the surgery.certainly hoping not, but i'd give the vet a call and tell them what you told us, and that you are concerned. perhaps something easy like an X-ray can disprove this, and then we can help figure out what is going on.
seems like too coincidental to wait on.
please let us know the results.

I would call the vet and run this all by them to see if they think it may be related to the surgery or something else. Hoping you can figure it out and its nothing serious.

Probably need to have him checked out, 5 is young and the sooner you find out what it is the sooner you can get him on some treatment etc.
