    Duralactin experiences

I had an appointment with my vet this afternoon because Brandy woke up lame this morning. During the visit, she mentioned a product called Duralactin. It is supposed to act in much the same way as an NSAID and control inflammation and pain, but it is a natural product with no side effects. With Brandy's joint issues, she thought it might be something I would consider trying. I have done very little research at this point, but thought I would throw it out here and see if anyone has tried it. If you have, what are your thoughts?

No experience but, have you looked in turmeric/golden paste? I got some for me but I'm out of coconut oil so I haven't tried it yet. I don't care much for the taste of plain turmeric. I came across it while reading about it for dogs, actually. But they don't need it so I was just going to try it for me.

    sorry about Brandy :/

Never heard of it but I just went to their website and it looks really interesting. I googled hyperimmunized cows and now I wonder if there are not more products using this milk than just Duralactin?

Yes, I use it for my dog, except I use double strength microlactin made for humans. I order it from swansonvitamins.com or amazon. It's the same as duralactin but a lot cheaper. My dog has arthritis in multiple joints and although the microlactin isn't the only thing she's on, I absolutely do notice a difference. I took her off it a couple months ago just to see and she was clearly more stiff. She gets 1 1/2 pills twice daily which matches the dose that duralactin gives (she's about 95 lbs.) The pills are kind of big so that could be the only problem if the dog is weird about taking pills. The duralactin chewables are also kind of big and have a strong vanilla scent.

So glad this thread started...I'd never heard of this product and it certainly looks promising.

It also comes in powder form...I just ordered some for myself and the pooches (none of us do well with glucosamine and this stuff supposedly works better than that). I ordered direct from Swanson...I use other products from them already.

My vet said she's been giving it to her dog for a few weeks now, instead of Rimadyl, and she is doing great. She adopted her dog from me, Sophie was one of my fosters, and her front left leg was broken at some point in her life, but never treated properly. So it healed, but not cleanly. You only notice a hitch in her step when she runs, but she's young and active and this product seems to be helping her. I might ask around a bit to get more feedback, but I'm seriously considering trying it.

The three of us started using it yesterday...I'll update in a couple of weeks (two week loading period should show something, I think, if it's going to). If I forget, feel free to PM me but I'll probably remember.

Well.....I didn't make it all the way through the loading period. I started getting my classic intolerance symptoms...anxiety and irritability (bad irritability)...and stopped. There was nothing else seemingly responsible for this but I'll give it another shot in about a month or so just to make sure. (This is also what happened to me after prolonged use of MSM (twice)...another great anti-inflammatory.)

I haven't noticed anything different with the dogs...no side effects or apparent lessening of discomfort. I'll see what happens as I use up what I have. They obviously like the taste so they won't mind.

I do not do double dose loading for sensitive individuals for other products. In fact, I start at a half or quarter or even lower dose for Prozyme or vitamins or glucosamine. You might try a slower restart, Sundance. That is what I will do if I try this.

That's a good idea, Charlotte. I always do that with the dogs...and did that for MSM for myself since too much of that too soon can cause intestinal problems...don't know why I didn't think to do that with the microlactin.
