Fantastic news! Others have given some great input on the diet, I have nothing to add. Good luck!

Thank you again everyone for your well wishes and patience with me taking so long to write back. As for the food right now Kain's eating Simply Nourish Healthy Weight, he gets 1/2 cup in the morning and in the evening along with 1/2 cup of green beans. For snacks he's getting carrots. I've instructed everyone in the house that he is only to have carrots outside his diet. He's lightly jogging roughly 45 minutes a day with me, plus fetch and playing in the back yard. I'm still trying to find a calmer part of the river to take him out for swims. While lakes are super close to us they're still minimum 40 minute drive.

I decided to give the prescription diet a try. The royal canin was the only one that had meat as its first ingredient. He will be going in every 3-4 weeks to monitor his weight. The vet and the nutritionist want him to loose 1-2% of his body weight a week. He is loosing weight with the green beans and kibble alongside working out. I think I will look further into the Wellness Core weight management food, Kain's done fabulous on that.

Our Vet, student vet, and nutritionist are awesome. They've been super patient explaining things to me and answering my concerns especially because in terms of food I'm "that lady" that asks a million questions.

Here is what he looks like right now:

Wishing you and Kain all the luck. Got a lot of good people in your corner to help Kain loose it safely and give him a foundation to keep his weight perfect.

Hope you update. I am "bazillion question lady" myself. Yes we are a pain, lol but how can you make the right decisions if you don't know and understand the whole picture.

That is wonderful news! I am not a fan of the prescription diet foods, if I needed one with lower calories my choice would be either the Wellness Core or Earthborn lower calorie foods.

He doesnt look to bad, good for you for taking care of his weight problem before it got out of control. Its tough controlling weight when you have a dog prone to weight gain. I am constantly monitoring Zoeys weight, its getting tougher as she gets older

Celery and lettuce is another good low cal option for a treat, Zoey eats alot more celery and lettuce than any other veggie. Watermelon is a good low cal alternative for fruit for an occasional treat too
