    Giardia quesions

So when I got Benelli he was negative for all parasites I brought a stool sample in BC his poos were really smelly and went from soft to liquid to firm and he had horrible gas. It came back positive for Guardia the vet treated him with metro I did a prescription diet of lo res to give the gut some time to heal then slowly transitioned him back to reg food. I also added a probiotic.

His stools still arnt the greatest and he still gets gas really bad it could clear a room. He's been on panacure and metro the probiotic he is eating 4 cups of food a day just to keep wieght on him and he's still on the thin side.

I'm at a loss any help for those that delt with this? He's great otherwise not painful happy eats drinks no vomiting energy good.

What is his regular food? Lola had two bouts of Giardia when she was a pup, and it was a son of a gun to kick. You may want to consider adding a pro-biotic like Forti-flora once a day.

Sam had Giardia as a puppy. I remember having to treat him twice to get rid of it. After the initial treatment his stool sample was clear but then a few weeks later if turned up positive again. Maybe Benelli still has Giardia since it's so hard to get rid of?

He's on canidae ALS I tried to find a decent food that wasn't to rich. Pro plan made him itch like crazy I tried earthborn and that gave him watery stools. He has formed stools on canidae but then they turn loose I thought maybe I was feeding to much so I cut back not only was he still having the same problem he started losing weight again.

He is on a probiotic. I'm going to talk to the vet again today. Maybe bring in another stool sample.

Melody's breeder suggested Albon and Tylan. While Melody never had giardia, Bandit did and it worked very fast.

Boy, once you smell a giardia poo you never forget it. It's horrible.

Thanks my breeder friend had some to give me so I'll start him on that. I'm still taking him to the vet to get him checked out. I just worry about his weight could this be from the Giardia or something else?

Tho hes been gaining you can still see his ribs and he's pretty thin. He's on 4 cups of food a day. I know Guardia can mess with the gut so hopefully this will work and he will be as good as knew.

I read that for stubborn giardia, it would be 5 days on Panacur, 5 days off, and then 5 days on again.

And stress makes it rear its head, so I'm not surprised.

So I started him on the Albon vet said 6 tabs the first day then 3 tabs everyday once a day for 5 days that along with the probiotic. I didn't want to overload him on stuff so I held off on the tylan powder for now. He seems to be better fingers crossed. Normal poos and not as gassy we shall see once the albon is finished.

Jen C we did that with the panacure but I'm sure it came back and he's in a new home lots of new things so I'm sure the stress flared it up again.

He's getting better with his anxiety he now settles in the house and not just pace around all anxious.

He runs to his crate now when I leave BC he knows he will get a bully stick and his Kong wobbler filled with treats.
