    Crew update from Vet

Last night around midnight Crew started a major panting event which actually only lasted about five minutes...but his rapid breathing seemed to go on and on. So instead of waiting for our next appointment to check how the thyroid med was doing our Vet let us bring him in so they could do a whole body X-ray.....he wanted to make sure nothing unseen but serious was going on. Result late this afternoon is there is nothing he can see or find to cause the breathing stuff. I told him some other things I'd noticed the last two nights and it seems he's reverse sneezing. We don't know why but he started on a broad spectrum antibiotic to see if the sinuses are inflamed or infected. Back in two weeks to see if thyroid supplement is working....we will also work to rid him of 6 pounds extra weight.

The thyroid meds can take a bit for the body to regulate; when are you to retest his levels?

Sometimes the thyroid meds themselves can cause what you were experiencing.

We go back in two more weeks...he was doing this stuff before the meds...no one seems to understand why he's doing this..just that it's apparently not life threatening. I can deal with losing a bit of sleep to get him comfortable.

I do know that it takes a while for thyroid meds to work, more than a couple of weeks.

    Sending good thoughts for Crew.

We had to do a thyroid retest at a month. Have you been on the meds that long? How old is the dog? I hate the thought of randomly putting the dog on antibiotics. A blood test would have been a better idea, and IF the dog had a high white count (which indicates infection) THEN antibiotics. Antibiotics make all my dogs a little queasy.

The possibility of sinus issues prompted the antibiotics. His thyroid supplement wont be a month for two more weeks.
