    Pads Breaking

This has been an ongoing issue with Penny. Her feet seems senstive and every once in awhile a pad will go raw (like a piece or chunk came out). 2-4 times a yaer.

And one of the upper pads (one that doesn't touch teh ground) seems to be most problematic at all. It has a big crack.

Is there something I can do to help her paws overall? To avoid more of these ongoing issues?

I have had a lot of luck with Demoscent Biobalm. Basically a lotion for dogs paw pad. They are like skin and some people need to put lotion on hands and feet. She may just need that as well.

Oh and Burts Bee's has a lotion for dog paw pads as well.

thanks - i guess it needs to be "ok" for a dog to lick too.

Curious - would lotion not soften the pads? Making them more susceptible to injury? I guess not!

    Perhaps this?

Handhills Tuff N Up (what I'm using now)

I'd used another product from Amazon first but it stained and so I switched. I can't remember the name of that one but I'd recommended it here. I prefer the one I'm using now since the color isn't as much of an issue (seems to be maintaining toughness well). Both products mention healing as well as toughening.

Ah....here's the original one: Tuf-Foot - made to toughen sore and tender foot, paw and hoof conditions

    Thanks!

Yes the photos on the first link are what she gets on the main pads (the top one is more of a deep crack). But when I look at them even when they are "good" you can see they are not very "tough".

I'll see which ones I can find in Canada (I know musher's secret is).

If you don't have any luck with the Bag Balm definitely try the Mushers Secret. I use BB for maintenance throughout the year and MS in the Winter. I really like both products. MS is very different than BB, MS is more of a protective product as opposed to BB which I consider more of a soothing product.
