worst breath possible

so my dog has awful breath. like so bad if he is breathing towards you have to push him away, if he is laying head into bathroom he makes the bathroom smell. it is just incredibly bad

he is 2 1/2. Was on raw for about a year up until about 6-7 months ago. he is now on blue buffalo grain free limited ingredient. no treats or anything beyond that. i started about 3-4 weeks ago brushing his teeth with dog toothbrush and toothpaste couple times a week with no improvement

his breath is one of the worst things i can imagine. no idea what can be and started probably 3-4 months ago? up to date on shots, seems healthy and energetic and such otherwise. no real tartar build up in his mouth.

any ideas?

Maybe it's the Blue Buffalo. Just not a fan of that brand.

One of our cats had bad breath. We ignored and we shouldn't have . Finally a visit to the Vet and multiple teeth had to be removed. Painful and expensive. Maybe a Vet visit for a deep cleaning could preclude major dental work.

I tried Merricks prior and it gave him the runs. So did BB wilderness. This one has normal stools so I hope it is not that but something to consider

I can check with vet but at only 2/12 years old and solid food his whole life and no tarter I would hope that is not the case. But I guess possible. He does not act like teeth hurt when he eats

Could he have cracked a molar that is now infected? I would definitely have a dental cleaning and check up done to be on the safe side.

My two have had the same breath (as each other) with every food I've fed. NutriSource Grain Free creates an icky smell coming up from the stomach. Their teeth/gums are wonderful. I just ignore it.

I wouldn't classify it as anywhere near what you're describing, though...more just not minty fresh.

My first thought with breath that bad would be a cracked tooth. I suppose it could also be a sinus issue, either an infection or foreign body. I would think that would cause some unilateral nasal discharge though. Let us know what the vet says! Breath as bad as you describe doesn't sound normal.

I'd take him to the vet. Could be something like an abscess or something going on in a sinus, throat, etc. Or the vet may just tell you that you're sensitive, which in that case I'd go back to raw. My dogs' breath no longer smells at all with the raw. I mean, it's hot and humid and smells like a dog mouth, but there is no odor.

Get a dental exam. That stuff can cause serious health issues very quickly.
