So sorry to hear this. Sending healing mojo.
So sorry to hear this. Can't imagine such a sudden and terrible downward trend. Hoping the vet gets to the bottom of it quickly.

Thanks everyone.
I talked to vet last night.
The dog, Santa, is on fluids and antibiotics and such. As of now he has no idea why he is having these issues. The results from urinalysis will be back today and hopefully that provides some insight. Since they do not know what the issue is, or the cause of the issue, they do not know what to do to treat.
Healing prayers sent - I'm so sorry to read this and hope he recovers soon.
Your dog looks so young and strong in those pics. It does seem odd to have such a rapid decline, which sounds more like some outside element he got into vs. a genetic type illness. Is it possible to get a 2nd opinion or even talk to another professional on the phone for ideas while your boy is being treated at primary vet?
Good thoughts coming your way.
That is scary, I'm so sorry. Prayers for your boy
I feel for you, and sure hope for a good outcome. Are there any teaching vet hospitals around that your vet can at least consult with? Keep us posted. Anne

Oh my gosh. I so so hope your boy will be fine. I have mine swim in the Napa river all the time and this worries me. Good thoughts for a seamless outcome for your wonderful boy.

So I talked to the vet again. He wanted to state he still did not know for sure what is the root cause of this issue but he gave me his best guess.
He did an ultrasound of his kidneys. He said he could not even find the right kidney and that the left looked to be in bad shape. His guess is that he was born with bad kidneys and that he would have had this issue but that the infection/antibiotics might have played a role in exacerbating the issue. He said that with renal failure there are few options. Can change diet, make sure stays hydrated, if he responds well to the fluid treatment he is on then we will have more time with him. But it is impossible to say how much time he will have.
I did some reading on renal failure last night and it said it is a progressive issue and people rarely see the signs of it until it is often in later stages. There, for most part, is no cure. Just delaying the inevitable.
