Poor Fran! She has been though so much and so have you and your husband. Totally agree with SunDance. Please stop by here and pick me up on the way.

Maybe a little pocket of infection that got trapped after the dental surgery?

    Sending healing prayers.

Fran is doing beautifully this evening. It has virtually disappeared. Just a relatively small bump.

Now that we're calmer, we're wondering if the surgeon had been yelled at recently. She was acting strange on Monday when she misdiagnosed. It just seemed so important to her yesterday that she wasn't wrong. She even expressed disbelief that it was actually an abscess. The poor e-vet clearly didn't want to step on her toes and looked at the pus under the microscope even though it was clear it was pus just so could say that it was definitely pus.

It's amazing how exhausting these encounters are.

It is unfortunate because so many people are sue happy vets want to cover everything up instead of saying maybe something else is going on or maybe i missed something, instead of putting the immediate care of the animals first.

I am glad you finally got the care for Fran and she gets better soon.

Glad Fran is doing better. Hope the root cause can be figured out to prevent it happening again. That angers me what you went through during those stressful moments. I've had those crazy situations also calling ER's in the middle of the night and all they want to talk about is the fee schedule. You may want to talk to the head of that Dental office. I believe you had one of the other docs work on Fran. It may be worth a phone call to discuss the situation and your frustration.

May this be the last illness for a long time at your house. Was it a garden variety carnassial tooth abscess after all that?

Glad Fran is feeling a lot better. Hope she's feeling even better today!

You should really call that dental office and give them a piece of your mind. Use the "I'm never returning/telling everyone about the horrible service/etc" card. Even the e-vet. They should really be ashamed of themselves. When you go into a field of medicine, whether humans, animals, etc., you're there because you CARE about the people/animals you are treating and healing; sadly, that's changed. Many now are in it for the money and couldn't care less about the service or quality of care they provide.

    Thank you.

We don't know what it's from. It could be completely coincidental to the surgery. The dental surgeon is so weird about it going on about how she couldn't have left anything behind and there's evidence to support that. Fran's mouth healed beautifully. There are no drainage sites in her mouth. And she recently had a really serious ear infection. She's blowing snot periodically and the e-vet didn't think that the abscess was in the right spot for the salivary gland. But this is where the frustration comes in. All the dental surgeon seems to care about is whether or not she's responsible. So I ask questions and she only answers them in terms of whether or not she did something wrong. Which means that no one is in charge of this situation. Our plan is to complete the course of antibiotics with warm compresses and see if it comes back. If it does, it's something serious. So yeah. Total crap shoot.

Dang, that's tough. The body, human or dogs, is complex, complications can happen. If the vet did everything right and a complication arose, it happens. We all sign those in depth release forms before anesthesia/surgery for our pets. I'm definitely not backing this particular vet; she should have been more open about what could have happened instead of doing nothing but covering her butt.

Hopefully the antibiotic will solve the problem.
