I also misunderstood the amount of time you spent with your dogs. Please don't be angry, Tanya is only trying to help, she may be blunt sometimes but the amount of rescue work and damaged dogs she has rehabilitated may have a bit to do with that. As much as she, and I, may have misunderstood the amount of time you are with your dogs daily you are unaware of what she sees on a regular basis and the amount of time she devotes to rescue and rehabilitation.

This is a great forum, full of knowledgeable members and everyone does their best to help and support anyone that comes here. There are people that get Labs, and many other dogs, and put them in the backyard where they live their entire lives with little human interaction. It does happen and it is a touchy subject here. We all love our dogs and what happened to your dogs is heartbreaking.

I'm sorry for your loss! There could be numerous reasons why this happened but please, have the other two vet checked.

I think the confusion came from when you said you think it happened Saturday, but didn't notice it until Sunday evening. The time period from Saturday to Sunday evening was what was questioned. We ALL care about labs, and are only asking questions because you came in here asking yourself.

    Again, sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am going to tell you (and anyone else here who has not heard it) a story that may shed some light on what happened to your sweet girl.

When my Miya was 3 1/2 years old she was out in the kennel with her daughter Jazz and one of her sons (boarding with me) and I saw her on her back being submissive and letting her boy pup jump on her and play. I witnessed him stepping on her stomach but thought nothing of it.

Later that night at midnight while Miya was sleeping on my bed, she began to vomit bile, this continued for 8 vomits....

Long story short, she would not eat the next day, took her in for an US to be sent to the ER for exploratory surgery which found a gang green ruptured gallbladder in a 3 .5 year old dog. That in itself was rare but I have no doubt that her pup stepping on her stomach the day before punctured that bad gallbladder (it was only a pinhole) and caused the internal leaking that set her off to the ER where she came so close to death for 8 days it was horrible.

My point is OP, there is a good chance this was a playful thing that caused a problem. Not necessarily that your younger dogs attacked their mother....

But it is still a good idea to have blood work done on your dogs anyway just to be sure.

I am so sorry for your loss...............

that's when I noticed the momma dog being injured and laying down.
then while I was looking over the momma dog the daughter came up and jumped
On her and wouldn't quit until I jumped in.

All other dogs are absolutely fine and yes they are spaded. Mom died moments before we were going to vet

    WHHAAAAAT?

how on earth can you not notice this happening for a day, when you say you spend time with them, like riding and swimming?

    I'm so sorry.

We had Basenjis when I was a kid and when the mama developed health issues (a bit of feebleness and sporadic seizures), the daughter went after her. They had to be kept separated...there was no lull. My understanding is that this type of thing is dominance and I could see that (in hindsight) between those two girls.

From what you say and what others have mentioned, perhaps your older dog had something going on that you didn't suspect....but the daughter dog did. Or maybe it was an age-related dominance thing on the part of the daughter (I didn't see how old the daughters are but this kind of thing seems to rear its head around the age of two).

I'd be keeping a sharp eye on the two daughters now in case it happens between them.
