    My Puppy has worms

Hello, I have recently got a new puppy and she is currently 3 months old. Yesterday we gave her her monthly worming tablet (frontal I believe). Today, she had a poo as normal and I noticed a long white thing in her poo. It was about 10 cm and looked like a piece of cooked spaghetti. It was dead, or not moving at least and from looking online it says it is a roundworm. I am just seeking advice about preventing my other dog from getting it also and to see if what I have researched matches with others experiences of roundworm in dogs. Is there anything I can do to help prevent it getting worse? I have given my other dog worming tablets(earlier than scheduled but wanted to take precautions). I will of course be contacting the vet asap but wanted to seek some advice about what I should do with the puppy and my older dog. Thanks.

Pick up poop and ask your Vet. It's not unusual for puppies to get worms and roundworms are not the biggest worry in worms. They are fairly easily erradicated with a worming tablet and are so common your Vet may not even want to see a poop sample, but take one if you have one with the worm. Puppies and kittens are often routinely wormed at intervals just becasue worms are so common. Kept in check they pose little danger but they do need to be addressed, ie eliminated.

P.S. Any time you are seriously worried about a health issue please go straight to the Vet. You may pay out a lot of money needlessly at the E-Vet but it's better to be safe than sorry. If this had been an obstruction or poisoning or bloat time would have been of the essence.

Also, does your other dog get heartworm medication each month? Most HW meds also help prevent other types of intestinal worms, round worms, tape worm, etc. Pick up the puppy's poops asap, I guess I'd wash their bedding, to be on the safe side, and a phone call to your usual vet might answer any other questions. Some vets will permit you to drop off a stool sample for them to check and you could do that to make sure the other dog doesn't have worms that requires treatment.

Know it is gross but puppies get worms. They mouth everything. It's not uncommon at all and easily treatable. Discuss with you vet the best medication for your pup.

Nothing to panic about. Puppies have worms. It's why you give them the deworming pills. The pills kill the worms and they pass. Just make sure you are cleaning up the poo right away so none of them eat it.

Our vet said that sometimes the pills can "force" a worm out and that it may be normal. Luckily, I've never seen one *knock on wood*, but it may be possible.

Definitely take a sample up to your vet. They may be able to write up a script if worms are there. Murph's dewormer was easy to use - just sprinkled in his food.

    Good luck!

I'm not sure the OP has checked back in since posting this concern. Oh well!
