[QUOTE=Dennis Thomas, DVM;103919]If your dog is clinically hypothyroid, you will notice sluggishness, overweigh without increased appetite and a desire to stay warm. QUOTE]I have had 3 dogs with hypothyroidism, and none of these symptoms ever were present.

He had some symptoms, not all. However, he starting improving on the same food, right after the test and about a two weeks after a heavy freeze. I ended up changing to a similar food that is easier to get after that. He's looking pretty good and feeling good as well. Based on everything I've tried, my vet and I believe it is environmental. I'll find out this Spring as I won't change anything (unless I have to for medical reasons) and see how the change in seasons affects him. And, because he is looking and feeling good, I'm waiting to see the derm vet.

Pretty unusual since the thyroid gland is responsible for basal metabolism which is responsible for burning energy at rest.

It was mentioned in this post that she switched to Fromm. I think what he was referring to was the food they were on when the issues started which I believe was RAW then Canine Caviar (don't remember exactly). I had to re-read to find it as I didn't remember Fromm being mentioned. Again, my interpretation was that he meant it was the food they were on when the issues started.

FWIW, we have some FROMM foods in our rotation as well.

Thanks! I like Fromm GF foods and think they are a fabulous company, I couldn't imagine anyone finding fault with them. My dogs also eat raw and home cooked along with several GF foods, I do understand there is controversy with raw when it is fed incorrectly. I have never fed Canine Caviar.

I started giving them Fromm once I realized that it probably was not a food allergy. Things had already began to improve prior to changing to Fromm. I didn't think it would make a difference one way or the other and I wanted a high-quality food that was convenient for me. He's continued to improve. Fromm seems to be agreeing with both of them!
