Small cloudy spot on Daisy's eyeball

Last night I noticed a small (about the size of a pen point) grayish spot on the surface of Daisy's right eyeball. It's near the right/outside edge of her pupil. I tried to get a photo but could not get my camera to focus on it. It looks like it's on the surface of her eyeball and at first I thought she had something just stuck to her eye but on closer inspection it wasn't.

Daisy is only 5 but she isn't from a reputable breeder so this has me a little concerned. Is it possible that it's an injury or is this the start of cataracts or another eye related issue?

We were out of town since Thursday of last week so last night is the first time I saw her since we've been back. We're definitely going to take her to the vet but I'm just curious if anyone has experienced this before.

All the possibliities you mention are possible. I've had injury and cataracts in mine with no serious impairment to vision. The injury was from running eyeball first into a wire fence and the surface of the eye remained slightly flattened the rest of Whisper's life but there appeared to be no effect on her sight at all. We checked that eye all the time though, and the cataracts that Jet developed. What you describe does not sound like what I've seen in cataracts, they were more of a hazing over the eye, a cloudiness that was bigger than you say.

When I've seen cataracts in the past the cloudiness was almost over the whole pupil. I'm hoping it's nothing serious. Her vision doesn't seem to be affected and she's not acting as if it's bothering her but of course you just never know with dogs since they can be be stoic.

Melody had cataracts which were noticeable. They were almost center of the eye. Fortunately, they did not "grow" and she still had decent vision.

UPDATE - Thanksgiving made it difficult to get to the vet earlier but we finally brought her in today and after doing a dye test the vet thinks it's an injury and nothing to be too worried about. I'm thinking maybe Lily got her with her tooth when they were playing. Either way, $35 was definitely worth the piece of mind.
