    Drooling after rawhide bone

    Hey everyone,
About two hours ago we gave Milo a piece of a rawhide bone and now he is drooling excessively. We only gave him the end of the bone, so he didn't consume the whole thing. Our other dog never had trouble with rawhide. Anyway, now he is drooling A LOT more than usual. No other symptoms, but he is a little subdued (though he usually is this time of night). He's 9 months. Should I be worried? Anyone else have trouble with rawhide bones? Should I call the vet?
    Thanks!

Check the inside of his mouth to make sure nothing is caught anywhere. Other than that I can't think of anything else to do but call an emergency vet practice if it continues. I hope everything is ok!

Was it made in China? If so, my first thought is that something in the processing wasn't something you want getting into your dog.

It could just have been too rich or too irritating, too, though.

I avoid rawhide. Hope he's OK.

Either way, drooling can mean that something is wrong, tummy-wise.

By the end of the bone, do you mean it was a knotted rawhide bone or a straight roll? I agree about checking in his mouth, see if anything is caught between any teeth. If he swallowed a knot, I'd be worried about it obstructing his stomach or esophagus or that he's otherwise feeling nauseated from the rawhide. I'd call the vet if it continues this morning (I see you posted this last night). Let us know what happens!

It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Update: he continued drooling through the morning, but not as severely. Last night I gave him some extra food and some bread in case he did have an obstruction, and he passed it all fine this morning which is good! Otherwise he's been his happy normal self, and the drooling has mostly stopped by now. I think that something on the rawhide may have irritated his mouth, since stomach wise he seems to be fine. We did check his mouth and didn't see anything. But I still don't know exactly what happened (and I don't know if the bone was made in China). No more rawhide for Milo! Thanks everyone for your help.

Glad there was nothing serious. I give my two rawhide, but only made in USA. I found these at Petsmart, and the dogs love them.
