Poor baby, that is so sad! I am so glad he is feeling better and things are looking good with his prostrate. What an awesome mama you are, soothing and singing to your baby boy!
Poor Oban, he had his ultra sound to fine needle aspirate the cavitation on his prostate and he had a "bad trip", in the words of one of the Vets. It was the fast acting anaesthetic that they give a recovery dose of something to end and Oban came down off it poorly.
I could hear him from the waiting room and peeked through a window to see him in the crate, moaning and whining, crying and howling, paddling his legs while lying on his side. My poor little baby boy. Our Vet set up blankets on the floor in another small office room so I could sit with him. She said it's disorienting for them to come out because they can hear but not see well, and can't stand up but they try to, and Oban was having a particularly bad time with it.
It took an hour of me holding him and saying things he would recognize, like Obaaaaan COME; do you want to go for a ride; fetch'em up Frisbee and so on. Each time he would stop thrashing and vocalizing and listen to me. He'd look up at me but I could tell he couldn't focus on me.
Then he calmed a bit, which meant not as bad whining and thrashing, and I sang bedtime nursery rhymes to him as I did when he was a puppy and that helped too.
He was back in his crate before 10 this morning and we didn't leave to come home till 1:45. The Vet wanted to see him walk around without being too wobbly and we worried about him thrashing all by himself in the back of the car. The car is a place he feels safe, he was better, he just slept on the way home.
At 5:00 tonight he was still whimpering a bit but can see me and can get up on the chesterfield. And of course he's hungry, no brekkie this morning and I only let him have little bits of it after he began to recover.
There is good news. The cavitations on his prostate are gone. It's weird. We are still waiting for lab results and there was a fluid pocket. AND the prostate is much smaller again and we're not going to neuter him in the New Year, not till after some more wait and see.

Ah, poor Oban! That's a rough trip. Sounds like whatever it was is resolving.
It happened to Melody when she had to have a toe nail removed. When we got her home I could tell she was not all there. She really showed the canine survival instinct, trying to get up, pulling herself forward and dragging her back legs. I was up to 3 AM with her, talking to her, keeping her from hurting herself.
Tomorrow should be a better day buddy.

Poor guy. Glad you were there to help him though it.
That would have been scary for poor Oban and hard to watch as his Mum. Great that the Vets let you help him out. Hopefully he is feeling better today and the results came back with good news.
Poor boy...what a horrible experience for him..
I hope he is feeling better tomorrow...
Poor boy
Glad you could sit with him. I hope he has a comfortable evening. Poor guy.
