Aowyn Update; I think its Good News and

Aowyn went into the vet today to get her stiches removed from the biopsy and that went extremely well. No issues and no complains from her at all.

The Vet looked at the MCT on her left knee and she was amazed at how much the tumor has shrunk since the day of the original surgery. She said that there was no way she could remove it but now she is extremely confident she can remove it and close the skin together without any problems. No matter the size of the tumor she won't get ideal margins but she can remove it all and we know its a subcutaneous MCT with a MIOTIC index of 0 so we know the cancer cells aren't dividing and subcutaneous MCTs are not likely to spread. I told her I was good with that but wanted one of the other surgeons to give consensus.

So we scheduled her surgery for Monday the 22nd. I wanted to wait to see if we can get it to reduce in size some more as I am giving her Turmeric three times a day and I am giving her some Chinese herbs that appear to be helping in reducing the inflammation. The plan is to continue to give her one 20mg of pred everyday and starting the Thursday before the surgery we will go to 2 times a day so it can ensure it stays small.

I am praying all goes well and this is the right decision. I worry because where it is that if she bangs it the wrong way that it will release the histamines and it will grow too large for it to ever be removed.

Yay for the shrinkage! Hope it all goes well. Try not to worry too much in the interim - I know that's hard not to do.

Wow, that's awesome news!! It sounds to me like the right decision... just out of curiosity, is there any way you could (and maybe you're already doing this, I don't recall) wrap the area with some padding so that if it does get banged into it's not such a shock causing the histamine release? I don't know if that'd even work, but if there was padding would that help? I know it's on her knee, so that might make padding it a challenge...

    Great update!

Sending more mojo that it continues to shrink so that surgery goes easily.

Thanks everyone it means a lot.

Apparently the turmeric and the Chinese herb are helping. She seems to have the energy she had when she was like 3 years old. Today is the second day she has decided to wake me up @ 5am to feed her. She stands by the bed and groans; ERRUM waits 10 seconds and repeats. I get up because and take her out to use the bathroom because i am worried about accidents due to pred. she just looks at me like I want food Dad not to go outside to pee. Its hilarious.

Funny! In her defense though, prednisone can cause an increased appetite in addition to the increased peeing!
