Hope Oban is ok now
Just saw this, but won't have been much help as we never used chicken with rice. Always did well with ground beef.
So glad to hear Oban is doing better.

Hope Oban is ok now
Nikki got so bad once that our holistic vet put her on a pumpkin only diet for ten days. Her poop solidified after 2 1/2 days but the vet kept her on it because her system was so irritated that the vet wanted her to clear out entirely before putting her back on her food.
All good thoughts.
Poor Oban I hope hes feeling better. Ive always had good luck with super mushy oatmeal with a little banana and no meat after the 24 hour fast
Oban has now had three full, regular meals and the poopers are back to normal. I guess next time it will be rice and hamburger for us, not chicken. I did take a stool sample in anyway, no word on it yet.
No giarrdia, coccidiae or whatever or however any of them are spelled. But we still have flatulence and gas is visibly distending his tummy. First poops of this morning are ok but from there he goes to pudding. That's an improvement but not enough. I'm stopping everything except food. No Previcox for pain and no Flexadin for joint support. His farts do smell like the Flexadin but it's hard to tell which med is the culprit when he started both about the same time. Arrggghhhh. Or rather, phhffftttt, sometimes with a little squeak.
When chicken and rice hasn't done the trick, I've added some yogurt or pumpkin. That seems to help.

I had already tried pumpkin. Last year it really helped with the Atopica, but not this year. Last year I noticed the amount of pumpkin was critical. One TBSP. Two TBSP was one too much.
someone mentioned cottage cheese. I forgot about that. It does help but don't over do it or it can constipate. I think I gave about a tbsp. in each meal.

Update:
We started Metronidazole (Flagyl) yesterday and canned Royal Canin Gastro Low Fat. Vet thinks these issues are related to Oban's low blood albumin count making him sensitive to his meds. The count was low last spring too and no issues then but this year he has been vomitting and having loose stool on stuff he's taken for months with no problem. Cartrophen Vet for instance. Over the course of about a month I've cut out every thing that goes into him, including food on a couple of fasts. The vomitting has stopped but each time I cut something out stool improves briefly then goes back to pudding, to loose to fire hydrant water under pressure.
Vet said I could try a lower cost alternative to the expensive canned food, boiled chicken and rice. Umm, no, tried that, guess I'll go for the high dollar output food. So far so good but the same as every other thing I tried. Improved stool yesterday after two meals and two pills. He had three meals and three pills yesterday and did not ask to go out last night. REduced flatulence too, but it's early, we'll see. And smell, and hear.
Minor gripe, Vet said Oban would take four cans of this food a day. Good thing I checked, four cups. Cups not cans. A can is 1 and 2/3 cups.
