Ok. Bump / Wart on Hoku's head.

    First, good news: she's perfect.

Also, she has stabilized, weight-wise, at just a hair over 80 lbs (81.5). For the bitches in her line, that is a healthy weight.

The worrying news I haven't really wanted to share, mainly because I am trying to keep my Jewish-Mother hypochondriac in check. Just after the Demodex cleared up in March, Hoku developed a tiny bump on her forehead.

It has grown slowly but steadily over the past month. It is skin-colored and dry (not red or wet or weepy), causes her no pain, is not a bone spur (it is moveable), and does not appear to be a bite or injury. It looks exactly like the bump in the photo attached, but it's a bit more toward the right side of her forehead.

It has also been keeping me steadily worried. She's at the Vet now (waiting for it to go away for a few weeks, we finally called the Vet), so I'll know soon. I am, of course, panicking. And of course I realize that showing a photo of another dog doesn't help any more than online diagnoses are useless, this is what I mean when I say "a bump":

The appearance doesn't bother me. The worry that it is something more serious, or that it is an indication of a problematic immune system, does.

Hoku is so young, surely it's something benign. Chase had quite a number of bumps as a young guy and I was all worried about an immune system problem too. Nothing turned out to be a problem. Hopefully Hoku will also sail through this. Good thoughts for you all.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Thanks. The rational parts of my braintell me that it is probably benign. The irrational parts of my brain are noisy.

Agree that it's probably not something serious.

They took a sample from the bump. But it also turned out that she had an ear infection. There were no signs that I saw. Argh. I feel so horrible.

Don't beat yourself up. Labs are very stoic. I didn't notice Comet had an issue with his liver until he was practically septic.

I'm sure it's something benign! Probably a wart or a pimple.

Maverick got warts quite a bit during his adolescence. They were mostly on his face. Apparently it is not uncommon. He even was getting them in his mouth. As he got a bit older, the warts have stopped cropping up. Here's hoping it's benign!

I'm placing my bets on it being benign.

Archie has lots of wart size bumps. Turns out they are horn papillomas. In essence, like a skin tag that slowly gets longer but as it does, the end gets hard (thus the name horn) and eventually falls off. I'm checking them all the time. They pop up on any part of his body; fortunately not his face. When the vet was telling me what they were she used the analogy of a jackalope as an extreme case. LOL, maybe there is such a thing.

The bump was aspirated, so I don't think it was a wart. Dangit, I really thought it was just a wart or something. But there was fluid in it.

I just feel like shit right now. I have had a crappy 24 hours—it's a friend / work related issue, but is looking like the dissolution of a very dear friendship will be the result—and I was really hoping / expecting that the Vet would say "It's a wart, no worries!"

The Vet did not seem to be hugely worried, but dangit. Now I am. And two weeks of ear treatments ahead.

Sorry to hear you had a rough day. It's always something piled on top of something else!

Did your vet give you any indication as to why the dog had an ear infection? It's often food.
