Some of you already know from Facebook or from my other thread but Daisy developed a nasty skin infection on her back. At first it just seemed like some redness but when it started to smell foul we went back to the vet who had to shave all the hair off her back. What he uncovered nearly brought us to tears. We have been on top of her medical needs since the Cushing's diagnosis but this nasty skin infection came and took over out of nowhere. To us it honestly looks likeshe had been dragged by car.

The scariest part of it was that we didn't know what it was all last week while we were waiting for the culture to come back. The vet warned us that it could even be MRSA and we needed to be very careful so that we didn't catch it or Lily didn't catch it. It was a very tough week of not really being able to touch and love on our dog.

The vet called today and it's not MRSA and it's not contagious! He told my DH what it was but he's a dumb dumb and didn't write it down so I'll know tomorrow when he gets the paperwork. We've been treating so far with two antibiotics and a spray and I can see it shrinking down slowly but surely. The vet is going to give us more antibiotics for another week and then a different (or lower dose?) to for two weeks after that.

Here's a photo of the progress. Left is Tuesday of last week, Middle is from Friday, and Right is from this morning. I took the photo right after I sprayed it with antibacterial spray so it's actually a little less red then it looks in the photo

Wow, poor Daisy! I'm glad it seems to be improving. I think those skin infections can spread quickly, I know hot spots can get big fast. Hooray for no MRSA.

Oh, poor Daisy! But to me, it looks like her back is getting better. So hard to see your dog go through this. I'm glad it's not MRSA so you can touch her and give her love like usual.
