    Help my lab has bumps.

    Hi,

My lab has had some hair loss for some time and we assumed it was food. So we switched around and finally got one that was good for him. Hair loss did not stop but the redness did. Then all of the sudden one day he started developing bumps and didn't think much of it till it escalated to this. We contacted a friend who works with a vet and said it maybe mange. We gave the treatment for mange but it seems to have gotten worse over time. How long does the medication take till it takes effect? Is this mange? Any experience with this with your labs?He is a pure breed and 3 years old. -img_2350-jpg-img_2351-jpg-img_2352-jpg-img_2360-jpg-img_2356-jpg

You need to take that dog to a vet ASAP, it looks like a very severe case of mange.

Has this dog been checked by a vet? If not, it's high time you do so.

Your dog must be absolutely miserable. As the others have said, please do right by your dog and take him to a vet ASAP.

Not only have I seen it before, but the dog had to be put down because the owners let it get out of control so bad there was no recovery. The dog probably can not stand to be touched, it is incredibly painful. As bad as you let it get from the pictures, this is going to be a long and difficult recovery. It not going to be just a pill and it will all clear up. This needs a lot of medical attention and the sooner the better. Don't let the dog suffer anymore get to a vet. I would let the vet know you suspect mange as the vet may not what you in the office as it is contagious and can even be contagious to humans.

If it is mange which it looks like mange is a living creature like lice, the can easily spread to you and other animals. Then you will need to treat a secondary bacterial skin infections, the red sores. The sooner you get to the vet and get treated the cheaper and sooner your dog recovers.

If you went to the vet and got a treatment for your dog, I'm sure you'd be in contact with your vet for continued followup, especially as your dog's condition worsened. Your vet would be able to give you the most accurate answers to your questions. However, if you've tried a home/google remedy, as others have already said, call your vet and proceed from there.

This is a good reason why you go to a vet and don't listen to your "friend's" recommendations.
