    Diareah

Maggie will be 11 weeks old on Tuesday. She is having loose stools. Called vet and he said to fast her until morning and then just give her a little bit in morning and start her out eating little amounts. Also I can give her 1-2 tsp pepto bismal every 3 hrs. He didn't mention anything about chicken and rice diet. She is eating really good and playing good. She is gonna be so hungry if I don't feed her at all until 6 in the morn. What are your thoughts on this?

I would start her on boiled chicken and rice, in small amounts. I was never abject to take food away completely as ling ad puppy was acting normally either. It seemed Maxx got loose stools off and on during teething. As long as everything else was normal and there is no vomiting I gave the Pepto and chicken and rice. A starving puppy is not a happy puppy!

Ok silly question. Does it matter what part of chicken? Is white meat better or does it matter? And just use instant minute rice? Sorry never done this before.

I would do the chicken and rice and a little pepto. Ive never fasted such a young puppy before. You boil the chicken, use white meat, the dark meat has more fat and make sure the rice is overcooked and mushy. Minute rice is fine. I personally would feed more rice than chicken

If it doesnt clear in 24 hours, take her in with a stool sample. Oh and make sure she stays hydrated.

if it were me, and i called my vet, that's who i would listen to.

usually, if my dogs have the runs, depending upon how bad, i with hold food for at least one meal. but they aren't pups. i then over boil basmati rice, and give them a few tablespoons of that. plain. maybe a meal or two, and see how the stool is, then i may boil up a piece of skinless breast , and put some in the rice mixture. but i'm not talking about a puppy.

but , if you call your vet and trust your vet…….

I am glad to hear she is feeling better! I do just want to add that normally I would not advise someone to disregard their vet's advice. I just would never fast a puppy so young unless there was more than loose stools going on. As long as everything else is normal.
