    Cookie and Sassy have diarrhea

They’re not going out more frequently than usual, but they’ve each had at least one very liquidy poop in the last few days (we have a dog door so don’t always seem them go). Chloe is perfectly fine though. I figure it’s one of two things - they picked up a bug that she is resistant/immune to (maybe she had it when younger?) or it could be a bad batch of food as they are on a different food than her and this started around the time we opened up a new bag. The food looks and smells ok, nothing off (it’s Pro-Plan) but we do get it shipped from Chewy and with this summer being so hot, maybe it got overheated in transit and went rancid or something.

So anyway, the plan is chicken and rice for a bit, and if their poops get better, try the food again. If things go south again, then maybe try a fresh bag and see if that helps. It’s a huge bag and I hate to waste it if they’ve just picked up a bag, so I’d like to try and make sure that’s the problem before trashing it.

Fortunately for us, this isn’t something we’ve had a ton of experience with. Anything I’m not thinking of? And at what point would you contact a vet? They have usual energy, appetite, etc.

Chewy will replace your food if you think something is amiss, and Pro Plan will analyze a sample if you contact them, they want to know.

We don't get digestive upset here much either. But I would fast them 24 hours, to rest their bowels, then chicken or beef and rice for a few meals. As long as they are eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, playing and otherwise normal I wouldn't stress over it too much. If that changes, they need to be seen by the vet. Buy a new bag of food, and maybe a probiotic (I have been using Probios and love it) in the meantime.

Double check the yard for any scary wild mushrooms, etc. and dig them out without touching them. I know you will go to the vet if they need it. Worm them with OTC panacur/safeguard (even the goat liquid) if there is any chance it is Giardia from swimming. Meanwhile, very mushy, overcooked rice with a little chicken and Propectalin at about half to full dose. Also, bathe them with soap and water after 5 days of Safeguard. Liquid Panacur is sold in the UK, and vet said the Safeguard Goat liquid is okay.

    Feel better, girls!

Yeah, I'd just give lots of water (obviously) and then make a chicken bone broth, remove the bones, add a bit of rice, so it's mainly broth and rice. Then slowly do same, with more rice, and more shredded boiled chicken.

It sounds like a bug. Fingers crossed that it passes quickly!

The only thing I would watch out for is that the girls don't get dehydrated. Diarrhea and this heat could lead to dehydration pretty quickly. Frank had a stomach bug (diarrhea) last summer and ended up at the vet overnight for IV fluids. The overnight stay was after he received sub-Q fluids the day before. It doesn't sound like their diarrhea is too bad but keep an eye on them just in case things get worse. I hope they feel better soon!
