Getting started in dock diving?

So I've heard a lot of people on the boards mention dock diving. It seems really fun and I know Brady is still super-young (not sure how old he has to be before he can get involved), but I just tried to look up some information about events in my area and couldn't find ANYTHING. I tried to switch gears and look at flyball or any other kind of fun Lab activity and still coudn't find anything!

I live just south of Nashville, TN. Are people around here just not into this stuff or am I just bad at searching for info? Any help would be appreciated!

It's a really exciting sport! We just got into it early this year - but we are loving it!

Not sure - but check out www.dockdogs.com or www.splashdogs.com. I know we have to travel, as there are NO events in Las Vegas, but the 4-6 hour drives are well worth it.

It's great to start them young, we have seen them as young as 6 months jumping, building their confidence up.

There are others who know a LOT more about it, but definitely check out those two sites to get more great information!

Sally just started dock diving last month. She absolutely LOVES IT! I just googled "dock diving, atlanta" and came up with the dockdogs.com forums. I posted and soon was put in touch with the Atlanta club that was just forming.

Go on the dockdogs.com board and post. Ask if there's anything in your area. You might be surprised!

If you can't find any dock diving clubs or events, there are agility opportunities everywhere. I'm sure you could find some place to do agility.

Here is a photo of Sally dock diving. You can see how much she loves it.

Nope, minimum age is 6 months and there is no limit! We often see some 10 year old dogs kicking butt up on the dock!

I know there are some dock dogger's in Tennessee.

There is an event this weekend in Huntsville, Alabama. Not sure how far that is for you but if you're within reasonable distance, you should come watch!

Oh it's so much fun! I just started my dog, Midas on it this summer and he's two. We jump with Ultimate Air Dogs but they're based in MI mostly although they've been spreading out more. They're now affiliated with the UKC so if you register your dog through them you can title it. It's so fun. My dogs both LOVE it. Mason only gets on average about 3' but he has so much fun and he gets so excited. My advice would be to start looking for somewhere to practice. It took a bit of training to get them to jump off the dock on command and then practice to do it into a clear pool of water Good luck!

We're going to check this out too! (I'm assuming you mean the Sportsmen thingy in San Mateo). I'd love to give it a try, I think it would be really fun. I'm hoping to meet some local dock divers when we visit the expo.
