Grr...Chain email venting (semi-long)

So I have this lady I work with who I consider a friend. She is always sending me the chain emails (send this to 10 people to let them know you care, or to break a curse, etc) I don't mind getting them...most of the ones she sends me have a good messages or funny pics...but I don't ever send them on...Personally I think they are annoying and so I dont want to annoy other people as well.

Well she sent me one yesterday with a poem about appreciating the people you care about in your life...at the end it said send this on to 10 people you appreciate and make sure one of those is the person who sent it to you....well I read it but just deleted it with out sending it. Well today she is like "you dont like me?" I was like huh? and she said "you know that email I sent you?" and I told no of course I like her and she is a wonderful friend but I just dont like sending those things on to people, I'm afraid It might bug someone. I let her know that I don't mind if she sends them to me, just don't expect for me to send it on to others or send it back to her.

Well she just sent me a message over IM saying "Ok I have deleted you from my email contacts. you wont have to worry about me bugging you any more" and now she is acting all hurt. I didn't think I was being rude about it...I really just don't care for those emails and I know i'm not the only one. I'm glad that she "appreciates" me as a friend but IMO I think if someone really did want someone to know they appreciate them, they would send them a real email IN THEIR OWN WORDS to let them know they were thinking about them...not someone else's email they just forwarded along (at least that is how I am)

Thanks for listening to my vent

how old is this woman? sounds rediculous to me. I can't believe she's so hurt over something as small as that.
I personally don't tell people not to send me it, but I too am a non-participator (forwarding, etc). I really just delete most of them - some of my family are the worst offenders.

good luck!

This woman is 39....the funny thing is a few weeks ago, she deleted me from her cell phone...she sent me the stupid pass-along text...I told her then i dont mind the emails but please don't send me the text...but I dont see why she has to delete me from her contacts (not that I care) but it seemed like an over the top reaction...

She sounds like she needs to grow up. If it were me, I wouldn't be bothered by her deleting me from her contacts. She is probably waiting for you to apologize to her and beg her to reinstate you to her contacts.

Some people are so hypersensitive about stuff that there is no way to say anything gently.

I wouldn't sweat it. She'll get over it in a week.

If this is using work time/work emails...I'd just say I'm working and leave it at that

And to add to that, need constant validation that they are "liked" by others due to insecurities. She'll be fine, give her some time to sulk and don't buy into it.
