Hair product to add curl??

I'm trying to see what other women use to add curl to their hair for an easy, fast style in the morning.

My hair is LONG, past my shoulder blades and pretty thick. I have some natural curl to it but I can't seem to find anything that adds curl with out making it super heavy and just falling flat by the end of the day.

I used to use John Frieda's beach waves-it was a spray but it worked wonderful!!! I can't find it anymore.

I'm looking for something I can throw in while my hair is still wet and just let it air dry for natural curl. If I just leave it go with nothing in it, it turns into a frizzy mess and only the back part of it is curly.

Any one having a product they love for this???

I have the EXACT same hair as you, and I'm still struggling to find the same product!! I used Bumble & Bumble surf spray once, and it worked awesome. So probably similar to the John Frieda stuff, but more expensive

I have the opposite hair as you! Stick straight, super fine, super thin. BUT, I used to use the surf spray to add texture when my hair was super short and spikey. One of my friends has pretty thick, wavyish hair that gets frizzy if nothing is put in it. She used the surf spray in her hair while she was visiting once and it worked great! It's kind of expensive, but might be worth a try. Anyway, it's by bumble and bumble. About $20 per bottle. When I had a perm before, I'd spray in some Herbal Essences spray gel, and it worked well. That's pretty cheap, so again might be worth a try. But, like I said, I don't have your hair type, so not sure if either of the products I suggested would work or not.

I use Treseme curling mousse, works well for my hair. Also thick, long, and somewhat curly I use it when my hair is dry...if I use it when my hair's wet it makes it like straw.

I like Bumble and bumble Surf Spray. My hair isn't curly, but it's thick and wavy, unless I blow it dry. When I want to let it air dry, the Surf Spray works great, especially if there is any humidity. I think its $22 for 4oz. bottle.

Does the surf spray go crunchy? I hate that. I currently use Aussie's curl definition and soft feel serum, but my hair is only shoulder length so I don't know if it would work on long hair.

I'm totally a wash & quick product application kinda gal though... never got the hang of spending time on my hair

One word for you - Ouidad (pronounced we-dad). I have their Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel and LOVE it! All the Ouidad products are for curly hair.

There are actually hairstylists that go to their school and learn the proper way to cut curly hair - I think you can do a search to see if there is one in your area - It's the best hair cut I've ever received!!! The only salons that sell their product are the ones that have a Ouidad stylist, so you may have to shop on their website - but it's very worth it - and very fast shipping! I just bought their whole line of shampoo, conditioner, and more gel - I'll let you know what I think of everything. : ) I'm very excited about receiving my product - can you tell?!?!?!? LOL It's time to tame my frizzy curls! : )

Ugh, I wish I could give you people my curls. If I let my hair get any longer than about 2 inches, it just waves right up. Luckily, I'm a guy so I can just keep it cropped short. If I could give my hair away, I would....

I have long (middle of my back), thick, naturally curly hair. I use paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam. Light, airy mousse that smells like coconut!! Not heavy feeling or goopy at all. Works awesome...I've used it for about 16 years.

I have long thick curly hair...a few years ago I finally found a hairdresser that was able to cut and layer properly and tell me how to style it.

1. Don't brush/comb/pick your hair, if you must do it in the shower before using conditioner.
2. A previous poster suggested Aveda, I used this for a while. Works really good, but expensive. I have just switched to Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly...suprisingly works goodI use the mouse and curling spray.
3. If you have to blow dry only use a difuser on low heat and flip hair upside down.

I think thats it...good luck with your search

I like some of the Aveda products, but most of them just make my hair heavy.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone, I have some products to try out!

here's a website for you to look at, all products aimed at curly hair. They also have a forum just like here. (It's called CurlTalk)
www.naturallycurly.com

On the forum they have a section for "product review" and they have a "swap board" where people post stuff they bought, just opened, and it didn't work for their hair or didn't like the smell, etc.

They have forum sections for the different levels of curl, like if you're wavy you're called 2a, up to kinky, which is 4a or 4b. So you can go in that thread section and ask others with your type of hair about things.

The number of products made to encourage curl has grown exponentially in the last decade or so, I think in part due to Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan & Sarah Jessica Parker sporting curls.

If you don't mind a little pre-bed time maintenance...

When my hair was longer, I used to wash my hair before bed and I'd put it up in pillow rollers while it was still slightly damp, then I'd get up in the morning and pull out the rollers and just comb through them with my fingers. I ended up with nice curls that way that lasted ALL day.

No product... but it is quite a job to put your hair up in pillow rollers. Not something that's spray on and go.
