    What a weekend

The last of the campers have just left after the weekend trial here on the farm. What a weekend it was weather wise. Friday was great sunshine and not too hot but by Saturday evening we into tornado warning to the north, south east and west of us. I have never seen rain like it. We managed to escape most of the damage, just some bent frames on the shelters. One road is still closed so those going east had to detour.

Sunday morning started with heavy rain then I cleared so we got amateur water finished and got to the water marks with qualifying. Just as the test dog started to run I could here the wind and rain coming. I didn't mind the rain but the wind worried me. It was fierce but again not too much damage. We waited about half an hour, t6e sun came out and we got back to work. Dog people are a little bit crazy.

Despite the weather M had a good weekend. She got a 4th in qualifying and what made me really happy was she got to the water blind in the very firs amateur that we ran.It was a tough test and I was sure she had missed the retired gun as she would not acknowledge it from the line. She ran good long land blind but again I lost her at the end of the long water blind. She swims low in the water I have real rube seeing which way she is
headed till I see her wake. We will just keep trying.

Sounds like solid progress over the spring and into the summer. You are correct... retriever people are nuts.

Many years ago we were at a FT in Western PA and my dog was actually in the water running a triple when the sky turned yellow and the air got incredibly still. Uh, oh!!! He ran well enough, and at the end of his run we loaded up and headed for our motel. As we were going one way, ambulances and fire-trucks were balling the jack in the opposite direction. Sure enough, a twister had touched down only a mile or two from the trial grounds. As it turned out, one of the FT Committee member's house had been demolished and his kids were in the basement under the debris. It was an amazing experience. (We went out on the water blind the next day.)

So sometimes it takes something like that to put everything in perspective.

I totally get your losing your dog at a long distance. I am not used to the distance you guys run in FT's. But is your eye-wear prescription up to date and do you have polarized lenses? It may seem trivial for normal daily activities but you're putting a lot of demand on your vision. Just a thought.

That sounds like rather fierce weather!

We've had people not show up to training days when all its been doing is a light spitting rain, I don't get it, if it were a trial you'd paid to enter you'd show up and run, why not to training? Heck i'd take a rainy misty day over blazing sun and temps in the 80's or higher any day for running dogs. They're way more comfortable in that type of weather
    Thank goodness no serious damage

A few folks lost pop-up shelters and trailer awnings this past weekend at a show i was at. I got lucky with the direction the front hit and what was parked beside my trailer, and didn't have any thing happen other than the lights got blown right out of the awning track and into the xpen. It was certainly wild for 20 minutes or so. Several homes in the town had trees down on them, a very large chunk of tree landed perfectly between my trailer and the van parked beside me. I heard that the Canada Day parade in that small town had just started when the weather hit.

Sounds like M is progressing nicely! I am astounded at the distances in a FT vs a Hunt test. I'm still trying to get used to working at the Jr and Sr distances, and I have trouble always telling what Scout is doing out there, never mind those kinds of distances.
