    Progress Perhaps?

    Mo Steady 8-9 - YouTube

I have days of video between last post and this, none of it worth watching. Noisy and bouncy. Singing and dancing. I've been sort of bummed about it.

But... the other night at feeding time, it occurred to me that there was a reason she was whining and bouncing back and forth.

    1. The dog will never be mute and motionless. She "flinches" forward when she sees the bird (or bumper) go up.

    2. Then she bounces back trying to find the exact location for her butt that will cause me to release her but she isn't sure exactly where to be. I'm waiting for her to settle down, and the slower my send, the more anxious (and vocal) she gets. We've been in a self-perpetual cycle.

SO... Bill Hillmann talks a lot about getting the dog to focus on YOU, even if you're at the dog's side. I think all the Traffic Cop we've been doing has helped her to focus on me. BUT I haven't been giving her the cues she needs.

During feeding the other day, I realized if she front-ended me, I stepped back a bit and she followed. When she got in the right place, I lifted my foot and set it down and BINGO she used that as a cue to set her butt squarely down and stay.

In this video, you'll see what happens when I give the ground a little stomp. Yes there is still the power pant. She's not silent. But she knows where she belongs and is assuming that position on her own. I'm just trying to convey "YES"... that's it.

Looks like it worked quite well.

Even mo' steadier. The dainty stomp works. She also used to creep on blinds (for heaven's sake. How ridiculous is that?) so there is a pile of white bumpers in the winger's "hip pocket".

    Way Mo Steadier - YouTube

After dozens more at this speed, I'll put a blank in the winger to fire a shot. And after dozens and dozens of those, I'll add a duck as opposed to a bumper. (After dozens of those, we'll do a duck and a shot.)

Nope. Just not working with that winger. Can't get, say... 5 good steady sit's with no movement in a row. I decided to back up to hand throws. Which I did (SO boring.) And now, she's really a rock, no feet, no squeaks. Another day in the park - YouTube

Moved the winger into the backyard. Man-o-man. It's going to be a long haul before we get the same behavior with that. 200 or more? I should put a pedometer on because I have to retrieve what she won't be allowed to. But on the bright side, working that winger 2-300 times ought to be a great abs and back workout.
