      Well, bummer.

So I returned from TX, ready to rock and roll and apply all the stuff I learned, and found out I had cancer. Not to worry... got a lumpectomy yesterday and only had one positive node. It's a pretty darned good outcome, as these things go. Next is supposed to be radiation, but I won't know many details about that until the tissues recover and heal up. I have already resumed training a little bit in the backyard.

The good news is it was in my left breast. I'd been taken to task during instruction in TX that I was jostling around and making random gestures when I'm receiving the dog back from a mark, thus giving her unintelligible non-verbal commands. So now that's hard to do and I'll be forced to stop talking with my hand(s). The bad news is that my straight up left back is going to be sorta lame for a while.

Meanwhile, I'm reviewing Hillmann's Land Fundamentals and studying the various drills he describes. She's doing them pretty well, already but they're the sort of thing that ought to be reviewed a bunch depending upon the dog.

So we're just taking it slowly for now.

So sorry to hear this. I went through it 14 years ago am still kicking. You will be amazed at what great therapy dog training is for you. It got me through so pretty tough patches. Your left hand back will come fine with the training you do. The dr. thought I would never be able to hold my right arm up straight but as I said before Bill's nagging and my determination made it possible. Take care, be aggressive and my thought are with you. It's a bummer.

Oh my! My thoughts are with you. I'm sure, with your background, you won't let anyone or anything slip through the cracks.

Sorry to see this. My wife was diagnosed in 2004, and thankfully is doing well. We'll keep you in our prayers.

Thank you all. Your encouragement means a lot. I have been amazed today with how little pain I have. Going to MD tomorrow to get drain out and bandages off. I will go out training with the group some time this week come hell or high water.

I am terribly sorry to read this. It seems you are very calm and that can do a lot for healing and dealing with cancer. I will be thinking of you and am here if you ever need an ear.

WEll I think you will have to change your name on here to Pollyanna. That's quite a spin on breast cancer, how it's going to help you in your training. Seriously, take care. Cancer can be beaten.
