TEAM TRAD - New Hunting Retriever Champion

    Aye Mates,
I am pleased to announce that me loyal companion Labrador gun dog TRAD earned his UKC / HRC Hunting Retriever Champion title on Father's Day at the Granite State Retriever Club Licensed HRC Hunt Test held on the grounds o' the venerable Timberdoodle Club in Temple, New Hampshire. This milestone is one that we diligently trained for and it is grand to see the many, many hours o' dedicated training come to fruition during the challenging test set ups we encountered along the journey.

Having attained his HRCH title, we will continue training and campaigning TRAD in the AKC Master Hunter stakes we are able to attend during the remaining hunt test season, the objective being to earn TRAD an AKC Master Hunter title by early autumn of this year. TRAD is a working dog, that emanating from his very soul and he lives to train and hunt. Titles are certainly a wonderful accomplishment and they provide recognition that the retriever has met a prescribed standard within testing scenarios. Reality is the factual standard that determines a truly great retriever in me own humble opinion. Whilst hunting, there are no controlled set ups, the birds come at unexpected moments and the retriever must be on watch so as to not miss the opportunity to mark. Multiple birds, sometimes in great numbers (as with geese in particular) result in goose calls honking, multiple gunshots fired at close range to the dog, and multiple birds falling to the gun that will land in varying cover types or on water, all that presenting challenging work for even the well trained retriever under a high degree of distraction. Couple all o' the mentioned factors and add in the various environmental conditions o' extreme hot or cold temperatures, wind, rain, snow, ice, mud, still or moving waters, and lighting conditions, all o' those being additional factors that a competent retrieve must face whilst working under actual / real world field conditions. T'is where "the rubber meets the road". As much as TRAD and meself love the hunt test game, we are both by our very nature fowlers at heart. As a team we live for those moments o' the sound o' whistling wings cupping in o'er our heads as birds are drawn to our decoys and calling. We love sitting in the blind, and watching the sun slowly climbing above the horizon whilst painting the morning sky with light in hues that are nothing less than spectacular. We highly enjoy the banter o' good gunning Mates as the smell o' coffee poured from a thermos bottle permeates the crisp morning air with the mercury registering temperatures in single digits. Formost, we enjoy any opportunity we encounter to work as a team in recovering any ducks or geese that fall to our guns as a blessing from God's natural world. T'is these experiences that have kept meself completely enamored with the world o' the fowler for nearly a half o' century. T'is the fine gun dogs that make me wanting for it to never end.

Many thanks to all o' ye that have sent inspirational commentary to TEAM TRAD, t'is appreciated far more than can adequately be expressed. T'is our hopes that our shared experiences with ye have brought some joy to ye lives.👍

    Faugh a Ballagh,
    TEAM TRAD 🍀🇮🇪🇺🇸

Congratulations to you both. I'm not a hunter (unless or until you can do it on a pleasant summer day) and can only hit what I aim at when the thing is kind enough to stand still.
But I love that the retriever field sports provide a pleasant afternoon surrounded by similarly minded friends.

Wow! shows the skills of both dog and handler, WTG!
must admit, this dog sport is soooo addictive, the dogs really love it, and its just so cool seeing them do what they were bred to do.
Hoping to have good news to share for the young Trigger and the much older Scout (he turned 11 beginning of March, who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!) by end of July (they each earned back-to-back Started passes 1st weekend of June)
