    Finally here!

It looks like Spring may finally be here although I have not heard the Spring peepers (leopard frogs ) yet. Last Fall did not end on a good note equipment wise. I lost the transmitter to my collar one week and my primer pistol the next. Spent the few remaining weeks looking for both as I knew they had to be in the fields we were training in. Anyway I bought a new transmitter and used my sister's gun. On Monday a friend came to the door with my pistol he had found it while walking his dog. He was brave and fired off a round, gun worked but the primer swelled I guess from being buried in 4 feet of snow. My husband got that primer out and cleaned and oiled the gun. I used it yesterday and it worked just fine. While we were training a friend picked up a transmitter that was laying on the ground. You guessed it. It was the one I lost last Fall. I now have it on the charger to see it still works. Looks like it is taking the charge.
Had a great day training. The dogs were (Elle) a little rusty on her blinds but marks were great. We will be doing some drill work to get her confidence back up. I sometimes forget that she won't be 2 until the end of June. M was her usual rambunctious self. The second set up was a double with a double blind. We threw the marks and I let her pick up one and then lined her up to pick up one of the blinds. I had a little difficulty persuading her off the mark but eventually she got the message. Ran the blind then picked up the second mark and ran the last blind. I was pleased with her performance.

On the way back to the house I checked the back pond. There was still a small amount of ice on it. I hope that the weather warms quickly and we can get into the water as I have entries ready for 3 events in May. I will start taking the temperature of each pond on Monday.

Wow... what a good feeling. My training is really limited right now because I had to leave my truck at the shop that is working on the Rpod (gosh darnit!) They have to have the tail gate to see if the modifications I want will work.

What kind of primer gun do you have?

I have had several different prime pistols over the years I seem to be really hard on them. I don't know whether it is the cold weather up here but the transfer bar, a small piece of metal that strikes the firing pin when the hammer hits breaks. The gun smith I take them to says it is because they are made cheaply with white metal parts. The one I liked the best was the GunX but again after having it repaired twice it couldn't be done again. I also have a couple of Alphas but they are no longer sold in Canada because they look too much like the real thing. The one that spent the winter in the snow is a 209 Pro made by
Charter Arms in Shelton CT. It is aluminium and bright orange. I can't believe I couldn't fine it. I like it as much as the GunX. My friend who has retired from the game gave me his New England Firearm one. It is old but they were the best ever made I have put it away and will only use it if I have to.
I try to use CCI or Federal primers as I fine the Cheddite dirty and the firing pin pierces Winchester and Remington's causing them to swell and jam the gun. When I went to by more primers they didn't have the one I wanted but the clerk told me they will be selling a new type of primer pistol this Spring so when I go for primers I'll check them out.
Primer pistols are not cheap here in Canada. The Pro 209 is $374.00 this new one will be in the $200. range.
The FT Clubs up here have been using noise makes made from modified bumper guns or 22 rifles. Gone are the days when they used single shot shotguns. The HRC clubs still use the 870 12 gauge pumps. I take my pink camo20 gauge as I find the 20 gauges are too heavy for me since my surgery.

Is it true that if we cross over into Canada from the US, we can't bring primer pistols?
