I think so... I need to get him consistently bringing the bird to hand, which I need to work on coming out of the water. He's getting it. And, he needs a little more practice finding birds on land. I think we'll be ready by next season.

Make sure you teach him to cross a body of water and then continue on land to find a bird. Even at the junior level, the water marks most often don't land in water, so he'll need to be comfortable and confident enough to carry a line in the water, get out and keep running to the area of the fall.

Oh, also, a good next step would be HRC (ukc) Started tests. Usually a bit easier and you can talk to your dog, plus HRC folks are super friendly. I bet he could do those tests by the end of the year

Thanks for the tip. He does this consistently even though I did not teach it. I did not know it was a great thing that he just does it until recently. I took him to a picnic test recently and they were at JH level, not WC, but I did not know better.

I will look into those. I get confused with UKC, AKC, Lab Club, etc. Thanks!

    Congrats on your WC!
We decided to get our feet wet in UKC/HRC at the started level. We had a great first experience - super friendly people, and the judges just really want to see the dog's succeed at the Started level. Very positive. Hailey had only been picking up birds for 3 weeks when we decided to go. Got her first 2 passes. Hoping to finish her title this month.
