Preliminary findings... We needed a word to communicate the concept... so I tell her "other way". (Dumb, I know but it's one I could remember.) It's very early in the enterprise. I did put a check cord on her and using that and cookies... I got her royally confused. So I just went to baiting her off lead with cookies... and it's seeming to work better.

I used the word "switch" just because it's short and quick to say. I did the same thing to teach, lured with a treat behind my back, and ditched the leash until he understood what I wanted. I don't even think the leash confused my dog. It got in my uncoordinated way.

Dogs don't make two-sided heeling difficult. People do. Our failures with it are self fulfilling prophesy. The mechanics are the same on either side. So are commands.

Hi Evan! You are probably right that it is the handler's problem. It feels so awkward and weird. (Mind-motor things have never been my forte). I'm probably making her nervous.
