how fortunate you are, to have come across and been welcomed into, a group like this.
what a great way to spend a day!
homework. yes. there's always homework, no matter what you pursue with your dog(s). and its very interesting to see the skills that are obvious in one field, are also needed in several other fields. the more varied things we start to do with our dogs, the more we see how its all related. so interesting!
which reminds me I need to plan the homework for the rest of the week! yesterday was a very "light" day after a few very busy days, so back to it!

We are pool sitting this week. After mowing the lawn last night I rounded up Belle and we went for a swim. She is always hesitant about new things but it didn't take her long to remember all the dock diving fun she had with Irishwhistler last summer at Quail Ridge.
It was an excellent chance to show her not to be afraid because I am not afraid and the bond that Belle and I share grew by leaps and bounds in that aquatic environment.
Where Bay would say "you want me to do what?" Belle is totally opposite and would say "where and when."
I really love that dog!
Dave,
I remember you looking at me like I had two heads when upon our original assessment of Miss Belle, I told ye I would have her swimming within a week. Three days later I sent ye a video clip of BELLE dock diving and it was like I had told ye that ye had won a million dollars. Success based training and bolstering a dog's self confidence is the initial start to me training program and one I continue to build upon the entire time I am working with a dog. BELLE is proof positive of how productive such methods can be, even more so with a dog that initially is less than confident in itself.
Cheers,
Irishwhistler

Bay is six years old today. While her hunting desire never really materialized after much exposure she is the best mannered dog I/we have ever owned. Bay is an "at your side" lab.
She is by far my wife's favorite.
I knew Bay's great grandmother, Bridget. Bay is leading me to believe in re-incarnation. They are both two peas in a pod.
Happy Birthday Carlton Brook's Great Bay Babe!

what a sweetie! happy birthday Bay! and even though she didn't turn out to be the hunting companion you pictured, she sure is a good companion!
Happy Birthday Bay!

I can already feel autumn in the air so I loaded up the Ford with Belle and we headed to Sampson's Bay to do some much needed mowing and landscaping.
All the time I was there I felt surrounded by my two Dad's. Camp has taken on a big transformation from its feeble beginning during the spring of 2007.
That was the first year I towed my Dad's camper up for a week of spring turkey hunting. Did the same in 2008 and 2009. Towing the camper is a royal PITA so after the 2009 gobbler season the camper had a new home.
This was taken in 2008. The land was so overgrown there was barely a spot for the camper.
Before reclamation.
After reclaiming the camp yard the camper has never moved since.
My other "Dad" is Dick Cummings. From meeting in a hunting forum chat room to becoming best of friends Dick was always there to help in returning the land back to the way it used to look.
Anton, Coalman and Dad at spring turkey camp 2009.
The Bay has come a long way in eight years.
There is a new sheriff in town.
Long live Sampson's Bay and the Yellow Dogs.
Yearning for this fall more than ever and it started this spring when I got invited to use a local training ground.
The intensity is growing daily.
A new 20 gauge O&U in March.
A day at the training grounds with Yukon and Chunk last month.
Just started pigeon trapping.
Have the first 10 days in October off. Twin Pine Camp awaits.
When I got Belle back from Summer Camp for Gun Dogs with Irishwhistler last year it was only a couple weeks before the bird season opened. Belle had the skill for a 1.5 year old but our bond was weak. She was gone three months. The cement started to harden last December when we pursued the local partridge.
You know what they say about cement. The longer it dries...the harder it gets.
Now we have had a year together to sort out who is responsible for what. She flushes, I shoot.
Simple?
Can't wait!
Enjoy!
