    It's here

November has flown by. We got to train almost everyday right up until the 20th. However I think it may be over as this morning we got up to about a foot of snow on the ground and no hydro. Thank goodness for the wood stove. Didn't need the generator as they had the power back on by 11:30. This is only the first day and M is going stir crazy. I don't know what she will be like if we don't find something for her to do.
My computer was down for awhile so I have been catching up on things. I really think I may have lost my mind as I have agreed to chair a local field trial. I took it on before I found out that the Amateur National is here in Ontario next July and they want this clubs priority dates. It has happened before so I will just have to deal with it. The first big job is to find another date for this trial. The grounds they use are only available a limited number of days. I can't get in before the 3rd weekend in July which are the dates for the National. It was suggested that we move to September but at this time there is a major fund raising pheasant hunt which runs from September until the end of November. With the number of field they use and the number of hunters the grounds just aren't available. At this point I am looking to see if there is a club not using their dates or the last two weeks of August. I really want this trial to go as it is the clubs 50th anniversary and it will be the 88th and 89th field events. Wish me luck. I would use our own property but there is field trial here in late June, a hunt test in late September and WC`s and a mini hunt in between. Did someone say there is nothing to do once you retire.

Wondered how much snow you folks got up that way! We got enough to be "pretty" and cause minor chaos on the roads, but today, mostly gone again.
We had a great training day Saturday with the group, so nice to finally get everyone back. and although a bit chilly (esp standing around throwing birds) it was mostly sunny, and all the dogs thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
That sounds like a tonne of work....I have always wondered how clubs come up with land (and water) to use for trials and tests, not everyone has an appropriate chunk of property. I guess this is where having good neighbours is a very good thing. It is hard enough finding good land and water for training sometimes!

Hard to find good land and water and getting harder all the time in the US. More and more "public lands" are being regulated more and more by at least one and often many bureaucracies. Not only the grounds for the trials, but you also have to be mindful of need for accommodations for people such as hotesl not to mention camping/trailer/RV parking and hook-ups within reasonable distance of the grounds. Oy, Anna!

Well things have worked out OK the National is going to run from July 10 to 16 so we will be able to use the 23-24 weekend. Now the real fun begins getting judges and helpers. I have 3 of the stakes covered but will need workers for the Open. Some friends have volunteered to do the snacks and lunches which is a great help. Next week we will pick up the equipment stored at the last chair place and then do a bird inventory. I want to do as much as I can during these long cold winter months.
