dog parks for hunting dog ~ so crazy

I have only had Hope a year. She is a retired hunting dog. She is a very obedient dog but when we go to the dog park she SO amped up. If we just play on the tennis courts, she is good but the minute I step onto the park where there are other dogs she just goes nuts. Bouncing up & down, being pushy with me about the ball, not listening as well. She crazy!! Is this normal. I actually don't like it that much.

Personally this is why I don't not take my dogs to dog parks, its to much distraction for any dog. Even my 7 year old couch potato lab annoys the crap out of me at the dog park .She steals toys, jumps on tables, its a free for all and I do not like it at all

Don't take her if this how she behaves and you don't like it

It could be her normal. We didn't do dog parks, none at the time, but we did take our rescue ESS out to walk places we met a few other dogs and she wasn't like that. Of course she thought she was hunting whether OH had the gun or not.

Do you hunt Hope? What's she like when you hunt?

Is it being around other dogs or is the ball? Because there are a lot of dogs, labs or not, hunting dogs or not, that are just ball crazy.

I think the better question is who on this thread has a lab that sits indifferently in the back of the car when they know darn well their at the dog park (or wherever else they get to have fun.)

I have 3 and they all lose their freaking minds.

I agree with this. My lab is a maniac when we get into the car to go to agility classes. She just loves it. She gets that way about the beach too.

Actually I took this funny pic on the way to class on Saturday

Hahah yes, definitely that too. The people who I used to gather with after work used to call Bubba "Call of the wild" because he just sprints onto the scene and does laps as soon as he's released.

So true. If he even THINKS we're going somewhere he goes completely bananas bonkers. It takes us 10 minutes to get from the house to the truck since we make him calm down. His whole body vibrates and just wants to EXPLODE when he's in that attempt-to-calm sit-stay.

Piper is also a spaz when she knows we are going to a particular place. Every Saturday and Sunday morning we take her in the woods behind a local high school. On those days, she whines like an eight week old puppy the whole way there. Every other time she is in the car she is quiet as a mouse...

I'm very pleased to know that we are not alone. She is fine when it's just her and I at the dog park, but the minute another dog shows up she gets so amped up. I spend less time there than I used to, which is unfortunate because it has been a big part of my social life. Met some good friends over the years.
