    Anyone here Snow Goose Hunt?

Jake, Bacon and I are going on a guided snow goose hunt in Missouri in a few weeks. We were told to be prepared for large numbers, sometimes upwards of 50 birds in 1 hour (no limit on snow geese in the spring). We are very excited! Bacon is too, he is going to get to retrieve so many birds!!! Any tips from experienced hunters like IRISHWHISTLER?

OH no longer hunts but he used to go almost to Saskatchewan and the snow geese are one of the things he still talks about. How there would be so many of them coming in they would block out the sky.

BaconsMom, you might want to PM IRISHWHISTLER. I have a feeling he will be on only sporadically since he is taking care of Lisa.

No experience, but I am in Missouri, what area are you hunting in? I actually have a friend who hunts with her labs locally, I know she has hunted here for snow geese since one year she gave me about six of the carcasses for my dogs.

We aren't 100% sure yet. our guide may change our location up to a few days before we hunt due to where the birds are.

I've never hunted them, but there are thousands and thousands of them here in the winter. They are bit smaller than Canadian geese, and you'll see flocks of hundreds of them at a time, so you potentially shoot a lot of them in a short period of time.

I'm thinking when all is said and done, Bacon will be one tired, happy Lab!!

    Aye Mates,
Just saw this thread. Truth be told, I don't hunt specifically for snow geese. Snows are not to be found in signiifcant numbers in the areas I generally hunt. I have taken snows on very rare instances whilst set up for Canada Geese. Most often I have seen them in small numbers mixed in with larger flocks of Canada Geese or traveling as soley snows with small flock sizes up to approximately 25-30 birds, that pales greatly to the large flocks with thousands of birds found in other regions. I have called them into decoy rigs set up specifically for Canada Geese.

In areas populated by large flocks one generally needs numerous decoys to lure the birds into gun range. Buying and keeping a large rig of snow goose decoys would be wasteful and un-needed where I most often hunt for geese as the opportunities to make contact with them are very infrequent.

    Good luck.

    Cheers,
