It is a really rewarding experience.
I would love to get Rocky trained as a Therapy Dog. I always thought I'd love to do that, and today our puppy class trainer suggested I do so as Rocky has the temperament for it. He's only 3 1/2 months and he's very laid back and well behaved. Please let me know what's involved. We finish puppy class in two weeks and are then planning to start Intermediate Obedience (trainer suggested we skip Beginner Obedience as Rocky is ready for Intermediate).

Thanks - PM me if it's easier. !!

There is a nursing home here in Spartanburg that keeps a resident dog. It makes such a difference in the residents daily life. This nursing home keeps a waiting list. Their four legged resident is a big part of the reason why.

Are they different from CCI? Today I met a dog guide originally trained by I thought the lady said Canine Companions in Pennsylvania. I forget why she didn't work out for them, but she was retrained a a dog guide. Some of the schools have a formal system to move a dog into a different program where it may be better suited.

Introducing the FishDogs...

Flounder has graduated from his therapy dog training class, and passed his CGC this past weekend. He takes his TDI test in February, and currently practices by letting kids who visit our tackle store read to him.

Tuna is his mother (a little too stubborn for TD work, but she likes having kids read to her, too!)

Snapper is only 9 months, and still quite the puppy. She's practicing her obedience and Rally now, but wants to be a therapy dog when she grows up.

Red face Dixie Mae, newly minted CGC!

Hello all,

I'd like to introduce my 10 month old black lab, Dixie. She just earned her CGC last week and I'm so proud of her! Her trainer always does a "pretest" a couple of weeks prior to the "real" test, but Miss Dixie did so well, she qualified to pass the first time around. She is too young to be tested for her TDI, but we plan on doing that as soon as we're able.

As for now, I work as a speech therapist in a nursing home. Dixie comes to work every now and then, and will continue to accompany me to my facility and other area facilities as well. She is so very good with our residents, and they LOVE having her around. I'm planning on doing some mini-research studies on patient progress during skilled therapies with and without pet involvement...should be interesting!!

I have a 8 month old boy "Happy" who is in training to be my service dog. I have severe PTSD, and the training im putting in now is gonna pay off here soon. He is going to be trained to do alot of stuff, including informing people around me that i may/may not need help. Help wake me up from disassociation spells, stand and bark if i pass out till someone comes and helps. Get the door for me, retrieve certian medications. Come with me everywhere! (which is the biggest one right now..since he is still in training) I have major anxiety and having him with me helps SOOO MUCH! The only issue im having right now is my work is putting up a fit about me bringing him to work (ok well more like corporate and a manager at another store) He has a vest, i dont allow him to play with other dogs at work (I work for Petsmart) he is very well behaved (most of the time, he is usually just lazy and sleeps/snores) They wanted me to have "papers" to "prove he is a service animal"...which when i looked up to see if there were any THERE ARENT!....i think they are confusing Therapy Dogs...with service animals...so this might be an ongoing battle UGH
