Kongs

I have seen frequent mention of Kongs on the forum and really did not know what they were until I looked them up on the interwebby.

Having not seen one in action, so to speak, how do they work? What do you stuff them with? How long do they last? Is Henry too young at 10 weeks to have one? Will they help with his teething?

I will probably be able to find a supplier in Blighty, but need to have some feedback first.

Thanks.

Kongs=lifesavers!!!
Both my girls love their Kongs. I stuff them with apples, blueberries, plain yogurt, wet kibble-but their favorite is peanut butter!! (don't stuff with all that stuff at the same time) My usual combos are blueberries and plain yogurt, with the holes sealed with a little PB, peanut butter with a little bit of moist kibble, or peanut butter with small chuncks of apple. I fill it with one of those combos then freeze it. It's GREAT for teething puppies (just don't stuff it too much for the little ones, could cause tummy upset if overstuffed). They're also great for when you just need a break from a puppy or dog...they will sit with it and work to get the stuff out of it for quite a while giving me a break!!
Nope!! Henry is not too young for one at all!!!! Don't bother with the puppy sized one though, get the bigger one, they're a bit expensive and he will outgrow the puppy one too fast!!! They're very, very durable too!!

I couldn't agree more, Kongs are lifesavers!!!
Whiskey has a sensitive tummy so we soak his food might add some apple or carrot bites to the moist food and seal with pb as well...freeze over night and presto! If we let the kong freeze over night it takes my iron jawed boy about 1.5 to 2 hours to work through it.

Thank you for the swift replies.

Seems to be a good idea and may stop Henry from teething on my arms and ankles. I shall certainly be looking for one locally.

Thanks again,

Hey newchapter - that's great! I have just looked on 192.com and found that there's one about 5 miles away from me.

Thank you very much!

OMG!

I would DIE without Callie's kong, she loves that thing. She almost always has it in her mouth. I usually fill hers with peanut butter and she goes nuts and of course I love it cause its pink to match the rest of her stuff

What is it with peanut butter in the States? Isn't it too oily for dogs? Maybe yours is different to ours.

I have never heard of it being used as a dog treat before I stumbled across this forum.

My girls love their kongs. Belle doesn't really get it...but Penny will drop it over and over and over trying to get the treat to come out. Belle just lays down and licks at it, lol.

I stuff them with kong treats and peanut butter. Right now I can only find one, so I haven't been using them.

I couldn't agree more... Coop has gone through a few of them already, but if your pup turns out to be a hard chewer, they do make one for strong chewers. Coop loves his Kong. They are great for teething and also make pretty good baby sitters...

P.S. - beachbum09... LOVE the signature pic... LMAO!

The peanut butter is okay for the dogs. We use all natural peanut butter. It helps keep the treats stuck on the inside and occupies their time...

They make Kongs for pups. I highly reccomend the teeth cleaning ones. I just stick some treats in it for hours of fun.

Every morning Holly goes in her crate with her frozen Kong when I leave for work. When she sees me open the freezer she goes and gets in her crate and waits for it. Kongs and nylabones are the only things we give her for chewing.

Baylee's first Kong lasted 6 years!!!!! She played with it almost every day. I just bought a new one a few weeks ago. They are wonderfull! Stuff them with just about anything, we stuff with a few milk bones, peanut butter, carrots etc. Best investment ever!
