    Found some snow!!

We went up into the mountains to the west of home yesterday to get in a hike before the road closes for winter. In the summer it's one of the most popular trails but after September 15 the crowds die down and dogs are allowed off-leash. The hike starts around 5400 ft of elevation and climbs gently along a creek through soft forest duff. At about 6000 ft we started seeing patches of snow and Thor would roll in every one of them. The higher we hiked, the more snow we found and the happier he got.

Once we reached the Green Lakes basin at about 6600 ft the snow cover was consistent and Thor was in heaven. I call it the snow zoomies. He just runs and runs with pure joy, every once in a while dropping to get a good roll in. He was splashing in the creek and chasing snowballs and just being the happiest lab ever.

I brought a Santa hat along hoping to take some Christmas Santa Paws pictures in the snow, but Thor was having none of it. My husband caught a video of me attempting to do this - if you can't hear the audio at the beginning it is me saying "Grumpiest Santa ever".

The round trip hike was almost 9.5 miles and Thor spent so much of it with the zoomies that he actually slept through dinner time last night - I think that's a first! His GPS tracker collar had him going almost 12 miles, so I'm sure he'll be sleeping it off all day today too.

Thor you lucky boy!!!!!!! All my Labs have LOVED the snow, and just like Thor, zoomies, rolling, it's so much fun to watch that unbridled joy!!! My Ella would run as fast as she could, them roll on her back and slide along. Glad Thor had such a fun day!!!!!

Great photos but it gives me the shivers! Both mine love the snow, too, but only Chase rolls on his back to make doggy snow angels. Thor is plumb tuckered out!

Love it. We were told to expect an early, cold and snowy winter and it's turning out to be delayed. I'm about the only person I know who isn't happy about that.

Yeah, I bought the reindeer ears clip on for Oban to wear at my Aunt's nursing home and he wouldn't have anything to do with them. I was surprised because he's pretty calm about handling. His cousin, an English Shepherd, wore them instead, the whole time we were there, as if she didn't notice.
