    Not quite a lab...

Today I was unpacking some books (yes, leftover from our move in June) and a picture tumbled out of a book I haven't opened in 15 years. This is Max, the second dog I ever had.

We adopted him as a 10 week old puppy from the humane society in 1993. They had him labeled as a black lab. But as he grew we learned we had a border collie. My family was not the best match for a border collie's mental and physical stimulation requirements, but we loved him and did our best.

He was a mix, and our (and the vet) best guess was border/golden. He had the rich silky fur, body, tail, and size of a golden retriever with the color, face, and temperament of a border collie.

Just thought I'd share a little bit of my doggy history.

Frequently, but what was funny was how people would see him from a distance and think he was in a cast. You can see his front right leg in the pic, it was the only white one. From a distance it looked like his leg was wrapped.

He looks very sweet. That's a mix (border/golden) my mother used to say would be exactly what she wanted, even when she was >80 years old and not exactly spry. Clearly she based her opinion solely on the appearance of the dog without knowing anything about their activity requirements. It must have been a happy surprise to find that photo of Max, especially since Thor is keeping you busy and happy these days so it's easier to remember the best of times!

What a great find! Lovely dog, really pretty head and face <3

I have to admit though, I thought I would open this thread to your having a new puppy, that was not quite a Lab!

Max is adorable! What a nice walk down memory lane.

his eyes remind me a bit of my Bailey - he was always thinking of something to do or get into would be a better description but oh so loveable and gentle.
