My Life in Labs Vol 6

I know it's been a while since my last installment, but since I was sorting through some pics today I figured it was time.

We had lost Dusty to was believed to be a brain tumor. She was only 18 months old. I knew I wanted to keep showing, and we still had about 2 years left on our tour in the UK. My friends bred their black champion to a nice yellow bitch and I took a black dog from that litter. I named him Clancy after my favorite author, Tom Clancy.

We went to pick him up when he was 8 weeks old. 14 pounds of solid, wiggle Lab puppy!

Clancy's first days home. I made him a small kennel run in the back yard where he slept at night. He was quite the destructive puppy, and this was well be crates becoming popular. He did chew up a goo portion of the inside and the door of that dog house.

Growing bigger by the day, and note the size of his feet!

    About 6 months old

    First Christmas with Ella

He loved being squirted with the water bottle.

    Almost a year old

Training on pheasants shot on the shoot where I worked.

    Returned to hand.

Clancy was shown on a limited basis, and did not do very well in the show ring. Consensus was he was too big. I never actually measured him, but he was a big Lab, weighing in at a solid, muscular 95 pounds in his prime. He was a very good retriever, and LOVED water. If there was a puddle with 100 yards, he'd be in it, splashing and rolling around! Our time in England was winding down, our next assignment was to be Holloman AFB in New Mexico. I truly loved the time we spent in the UK, we met so many really nice people, and were able to see and do things some people only dream of. I was very involved with the Labrador Retriever Club, working several Championship Field Trials and water tests. It was a wonderful opportunity and I will forever cherish the memories.
