Achilles, Fitzi, and Stella - almost spring

This weekend's weather has been spectacular - clear, a bit of a breeze. Yesterdays' high was 17C (61) and today's high matched it. The temperatures are so far above normal it's unsettling - we hope that plants don't break dormancy only to suffer in a nearly inevitable hard freeze.

Having said that all five of us basked in the sun and warmth.

Achilles enjoyed surveying his domain from the deck.

At one point we moved the dog bed out to the back of the yard, where the sun still shone. The sun finally left that choice spot, it got cool, and we went inside. Achilles wasn't ready to pack it in.

Owners of black dogs know it can be challenging to get a good photo. The sun was kind and we got a couple decent ones of Fitzi. A head shot.

    Resting on the bed.

I got a couple photos of Stella; the sun and warmth must have been good for her senior bones.

Bonus photo. We were inside when Fitzi invited Achilles to play inside and he accepted. I got this Impressionist-like image of two blurs in action.

So nice, they are not just getting along but playing together.

This weather is very worrisome. WE hit 11C (52F) on Sat. Maple tree tapping has begun here and apple growers worry about budding out and then another cold spell like a couple of years ago when a lot of apple crop was lost.

We hit 72F today. Felt more like April than mid February. The trees all have buds, and some of the perennials in the yard are breaking ground. Crazy!

They all sure like they are enjoying the fine weather.

It's been just about the same here. 30+ degrees over normal for days and will continue until late next week the back to normal. Noticed the maple tree buds look like they are swelling Had the same thoughts about upcoming damage. Which reminds me I better check the new tree out front. Daffodils are peeking up just enough to see green. They should be OK.

Looks like they all really enjoyed the taste of spring.

It has been in the 60's here today and supposed to get into the 70' the end of the week. My thundercloud flowering plum in the front yard has little buds coming out on it, nothing yet from the three trees in the back yard. I did pull my mosquito grass out of the garage and put them on my back deck to give them some natural light and fresh air, my container blue berries are starting to get little buds on too.

Snowshoe, Achilles and Fitzi seem to get along well. It's good to see them dance. We hit 21C (70F) today, worrisome indeed. I hope we don't have a year like the one you mention.

barry581, I saw a killdeer today which if memory serves is about a month earlier than in the past. I saw a map representation of plants breaking dormancy and things are happening about three weeks ahead of what's expected.

POPTOP, we've enjoyed it all week. Comes to a crashing end Saturday, high of 4C (39F) with a threat of snow. Back to normal!

labsnewfy, I did a bit of cleaning up in the backyard Tuesday evening. Had to take my toque off because I was too hot!

    ======

I hope this isn't the new normal.
