[QUOTE=barry581;157349]I took the new camera to field train last week and got some pretty good shots. I was in a blind throwing bumpers, so I had to deal with non optimum lighting.

This is a Flat Coat Retriever who does a nice job. It's good see something other than a Lab!

    Blasphemy! Burn the Heretic.

Wonder how much flathead DNA is in the Labrador Retriever gene pool.

    How did Brooks do Barry?

He did pretty well the past two meetings. The day I took these pics there were only 3 of us there, and we only did water work. Brooks absolutely loves the water, and one of the issues I've had is he will drop the bumped at the shoreline, and turn and go right back in for a swim. He did this once that day, then settled down and performed well. We did one mark that required the dogs to go from land to water, back onto land and into water again, then back onto land to pick up the mark. We took it in steps, and after 5 or 6 marks, he was going the full distance (maybe a total of 40 yards) and back with no problem.

This past Monday we did 3 land marks, and one of the guns was a lady Brooks seems to have a thing with, he'd pick up the bumper and go visit her in the blind. We have been working really hard with him to ignore the guns, and by the third mark he was straight out and back, so progress was made. When we went to water I took Brooks to a small pond away from where the group was working and did some very short marks with Brooks on a check cord, and worked from right at the bank on return, backing up 3-4' with each throw, making sure Brooks held the bumper and returned to heal, no shaking off until I took the bumper. IRISHWHISTLER made this recommendation when we talked the previous week. When we went back with the group for our turn, Brooks did three nice water marks in one of the large ponds, holding the bumper until I asked for it. I started at the bank and moved back each retrieve.

Brooks is quite the high drive dog, and channeling all that energy can be a bit of a challenge, as you well know! But we keep working and he's gotten better every time we meet with the group.

LOL!! Hey I've got one of those too! Her name is Sophie!! If there were ever two dogs that were polar opposites, it's Brooks and Sophie. While Brooks and I are working on things at the park, Sophie is with my wife rolling on her back in the grass, and just loving life. I just look at her and smile, knowing she's living life on her terms. We constantly joke, that it's Sophie's world and we're just living in it! For what she lacks in drive, she make up for it just being the biggest sweat heart of a dog you've ever met.

Lee Roy the Mystery Dog is our "House Lab". He arrived on our doorstep with some basic obedience and a mellow personality (how lucky were we!) and is my husband's dog totally.

Awesome pictures and that looks so fun! We are fortunate to have a very nice pond in our neighborhood but I haven't taken Forest as he isn't reliable at all off leash yet. We will get there then I envision many a fun day at the pond retrieving and splashing around.
