Keeping a lab happy in the smoke and heat

We have been inundated with heat and smoke lately. Air quality in the PNW has been worse than Beijing, and it has sent all of us outdoor loving people inside.

I didn't want to waste a Labor Day inside, but I also didn't want to do anything strenuous. Thor (and I) have been going stir crazy! So today we casually fished along the Crooked River and had a late lunch at a brewery. I can't wait for the air to clear and to get back to normal!

Supervising my fishing. I had no luck, but Thor was good moral support.

Great views along the river though!

We didn't do much strenuous activity but the heat was enough that Thor was done after a couple of hours. He liked the cool concrete floor at the brewery.

    Oh hey is that pizza?

Can't rely on this guy to be DD. One too many, passed out in the cab of the truck on the way home. [emoji849][emoji38]

Looks about like our weekend. Early morning quick river trip to get them out.

Currently raining ash all over town from the Eagle Creek fire that was started by teenage boys throwing fireworks off of a cliff in the woods.

Love the picture of him passed out in the truck. If I didn't know any better, I'd think that was my Samson laying there. Samson doesn't have the brown tip on his tail. Samson sleeps just like that on the couch.

That's funny, I never noticed that the tip of Thor's tail matches his ears! We've got heat, fortunately the air quality is fine except for the beginning of fall allergy season. The heat is a big factor though, especially if there's no water to play in.

Is the smoke from the BC fires?

    Yes, great views you have.

The smoke is from fires all over the place - BC, Montana, Oregon alone has 300k+ acres on fire. For a while it would clear up when the wind shifted, but now there are so many fires it doesn't really matter which way the wind is blowing.

And that brown tip on his tail has seemed to darken a bit with age and they do match his ears! He also has two spots on his back that are a little darker but they don't come out in pictures very well. In person people comment on them all the time.

From what I've seen and heard from friends on Facebook, everything seems to be burning from Oregon north, including Montana. It's unreal how hot you all have been. Today I'm in long sleeves and getting ready to close up the house with the cool breeze. We have also been getting smoke here most noticeable by the change in the color of the sun and especially the moon.

Thor, you better limit your intake or Dad will leave you home next time.

Looks like a wonderful day for you all in spite of the smoke.
