Lark loves to carry things in her mouth when she's excited. First thing in the morning, whenever I come home from any place, she grabs a toy to carry. When it's time for our walk she typically grabs a toy and dances around with it. She'd happily take a toy on a walk but I know it would be dropped somewhere along the way and I may or may not notice. My latest idea was to let her carry an empty toilet paper roll which she seems really happy to do and which we won't feel sad about if it gets lost. I guess that's one way to demonstrate a "soft mouth".
Good idea...she sure seems to think so.
I always referred to Baffle's inclination to pick up every plastic bottle we came across as his membership in the Howard County Recycling Relocation Program...relocated to our recycling bin when we got home.
That's great! I'm sure you can teach Lark to recycle.
I taught my years-ago-let-go-of Avis to 'recycle!'. It was a step by step process, teaching her to take, then hold, a can, then to take it to the blue bin - and drop it in the blue bin. She got it, eventually taking the can and parading, tail waving (aren't I a smart and good dog?) then dropping it in the blue bin and getting a treat.
Sometimes she'd (seemingly deliberately) drop it on the floor then look around. No, you have to drop it in the blue bin. 'Pick it up!' was the key phrase. So she would pick up the can and drop it in the blue bin. Goooood girl.

Great idea! Katie has the habit of picking up a toy when greeting us. She also likes TP tubes. Will have to remember this when we start doing walks.
