    Teddy and car rides

This is Teddy here about 7 months old. Seems to be terrified of car rides. Any tips to coax him in to jumping in the ride?

He tends to put the breaks on and just plops down

Have you tried food? Is he riding loose or in a crate? What does he do once you eventually get him inside and are driving somewhere?

We just started to go to the local park for runs. The drive only takes 10 minutes. He’s basically free in the back seat to do whatever. I recently just ordered a seat beat harness so he can stage safe

10 places in 10 days doing 10 tricks seems to work for most things like this.

There is a rule of thumb for making dogs happy in car rides and getting them to listen and pay attention all at the same time. Basically, you load up in a car, go someplace nice and happy but not overwhelming, to a park, to a fast food parking lot parking lot, to other places. Bring lots of treats and be happy and positive. If he seems worried or scared. Make sure you act like this is a happy fun thing, no feeling sorry for him, no aww poor baby, that reinforces his negativity. Happy happy happy.

It takes a little planning. But you get in the car, all happy, treat when in there. Ok now go someplace nice. Not overwhelming, not to a dog park or baseball game or some super crowded place but someplace little busy where he can relax. Like say the park, get out of the car, get his focus have him do 10 different tricks. Lot of praise and happy thoughts. Get in the car, give him a treat and go home. That's it. Now do this for 10 days straight. You should then by day 10 see a whole different behavior of him wanting to get in the car to go to wherever and do his tricks and get his treats. Be happy the whole time.
