We took the pups out for a three day camping trip in SE Oregon. It was so cold! Nighttime temps in the single digits, but no real snow on the ground yet. My husband and I each have big cozy sleeping bags with enough room to share with a dog. Thor chose him, Barley chose me. Nothing like a puppy furnace to keep you toasty warm!
The best part of this trip was that it was almost all on off-leash friendly land. It was a great opportunity for Barley to push his boundaries and explore, learning from big brother Thor.
A short ~1 mile walk to some cool petroglyphs. Thor hops around the rocks like a mountain goat, and it was fun watching Barley slowly gain confidence as he followed him.
We did some rock hounding on a dry lakebed. Barley and Thor got to wander and sniff, occasionally being called back for a sit and a treat.
We explored an old homestead, one of the first ‘owned’ by a woman. At the time it was very rare for women to own property, but Anna Flook moved out here in the middle of nowhere, set up her homestead, and opened a school. I was calling the pups back since I wasn’t sure how many rusty nails littered the area.
Up on Steens mountain, the highest road in Oregon. It will probably close with the next snow but it was open this weekend! It was kind of icy though so I didn’t let the pups run around on it - didn’t want someone getting hurt. But I did still make them sit for photos!
We left them in the truck while we took some photos. They decided to mutiny and take over the front seat.

After coming off the mountain we explored another old homestead. Here the pups wander around an old style corral.
Thor is not too proud to beg for part of my sausage.
We finally worked our way down to the Alvord Desert. Mr tennis ball obsessed Barley wore himself out doing some long retrieves.
While Thor sat patiently. He is not exactly a retrieving machine.
Finally, some passed out happy dogs in the truck on the drive home!

What an awesome trip! Er, except for the cold. That's too cold for me to be camping.
Love the pictures of the pups.

Looks like you all had a wonderful time.
That looks totally fantastic and if you hadn't mentioned the temperatures, I'd be raring to go. However, with single digit temps, once I got into the sleeping bag, I might not get out. And actually, how cold does it have to get to be a 3 dog night? I can't think of any place where it could just be us and the dogs for just miles around where I could actually see where they were. That would be great.

That picture of THOR laying on the cracked ground is a great picture of a beautiful Labrador. That should be framed and on the wall.
The pic of them cuddled up in the truck is adorable. Mine don't cuddle at all. I think it's a win just seeing them laying on the couch at the same time!

Thor has done an amazing job training Barley to stay close to him off leash. I love the last photo of the sleepy dogs. Do you know if Barley will be a swimmer?
What beautiful photos! The one of them in the front seat looks like a Subaru commercial.
