That is really cool. I'll bet the first few times Sanford gave the chickens a good scare My Cassie would probably not be able to contain herself especially if they decided to join in the fun. How do you test that out without sacrificing a chicken in the process?

Initially he was trained with the old chickens who were already used to my other lab Fred. I just kept him on the leash around them training him basically they were off limits. He saw his brother roaming around them which helped. I then supervised him while off leash. He did great after a few times. He would occasionally chase and still does a bit. But he really just wants to play and has never shown any aggression. The new chicks were initially indoors in a cage so the dogs were around them from day two. Once in the pens the dogs could see them in the run and vice versa. Once allowed out the dogs just viewed them as more chickens to ignore. There have been some funny moments as the new chickens checked out the "big chickens".
I really think you have to know your dogs personality. I got one super mellow one and one that is Robin Williams of the Lab world.
