My Rescue boy, Dude. (warning graphic photos)

    -1457-jpg-1458-jpg
This is my Dude in late 2012 when he was rescued by the SPCA. He was found locked in a house without food and water and left to die; starved to about 35 LB and with a shock collar digging into his neck, when the shock collar was removed there was a second, flat collar embedded in his neck. Dude has had a tough time, afraid of cars, trucks, bikes, strollers, children, skateboards, motorcycles, and hit and miss with other dogs. He is petrified of unfixed male dogs, and has been my biggest challenge of my life. We train every single day.

    -167-jpg-410-jpg

And this is Dude these days. I know he is fat, almost 100 LB. I know, I know.. we are working on it. :-D
He can walk past all motor vehicles except motorcycles, he can mostly ignore bikes. He doesn't notice strollers anymore, and we avoid kids, too risky. I love him, and wouldn't trade him in for anything in the world.

What an awful beginning for Dude. There is a special place in hell for people who would treat a living creature that way.
He sure does looks very healthy and adorable, now!

Pedigree ran a commercial during the super bowl featuring a similar starved rescue.

This hits a nerve with me as my Scarlett was in a similar situation the shelter told me. I refused the photos, no sense seeing the horror she dealt with.

My dogs stuck by me quite literally while I beat my Hodkins Lymphoma over the past 6 months. That experience gave me a better outlook on life and my dogs. Always happy to see us.

Dude is amazing. He used to bite us and drop to the ground in sheer terror when we got him. It has been a long journey, one that is still ongoing, but worth every single second. You could see from day one, that underneath the extreme fear was this wonderful core temperament. I've never had a lab before, and the stubbornness is a new experience, but the love - oh the love!
