TEAM TRAD went on a hunt for geese this morning.
The sunrise was beautiful and we watched as it slowly shown upon the decoys we had deployed in complete darkness just a short time ago.
The sun seemed to quickly wash the cold, dull, browns and grays of field in front of our blind with waves of golden light.
Me "well rounded" gundog TRAD was desperate to make some retrieves this morning and even pitched in with some work on the calling in hopes that he might suck in some big honkers within shotgun range.
TRAD made quick work on the pick-up of these geese, four being relatively easy "marked" retrieves, the fifth being an outstanding "blind" retrieve that had landed up an over a long slope of the corn lot, well in excess of 250 yards. I lined TRAD to the last place I saw the bird crash to the ground over the hilltop and hoped that based on a prevailing north wind, TRAD would catch and work scent once immediate to that area. TRAD took the line when sent requiring two short "over" casts and one "back" cast along the way. We watched his head lift and sample the wind as he disappeared over the crest, only to reappear moments later carrying the big old honker. TRAD'S pace picked up with pride as he heard the pleasure and praise in my own voice "GOOD BOY TRAD"! The delivery to hand in classic style was completed moments later.
We only took 5 Canada Geese this morning, but TRAD'S performance on these birds as a "first season" gundog, sure made it a most memorable hunt for all of us.

You take such great clear definition pictures. Trad is a lucky dog getting to hunt so often. What do you do with all the meat???
We divide the meat among ourselves and some other friends. We smoke some, makes, stews, chilli, kielbasa, meat sticks, etc., all out of goose meat. Today there were four of us hunting and we only took five of the twelve geese that we could have collectively as per 3 each allowed in our daily bag limit. We have over the years dealt with the same awesome German and Polish butchers that also make incredible smoked meat products. On Christmas Day, there will be a whole smoked goose for the many guests at my home to "pick on" as an appetizer. We also often bring along somemof what we have made as "snack foods" for in the blind while on hunts. NOTHING goes to waste.

Way to go, TRAD! I love how high definition your pictures are. By the way, is there a reason why his name is in capitals? Does it stand for something or is it just a stylistic choice?

I want to thank you for all the great pics and updates on Trad's evolution as a working retriever! I have hunted in many, many years, and I haven't worked any of my dogs since I lived in the UK way back in the late 80's. I think Trad is an awesome dog, and hope you keep us all posted on his adventures!!!

Barry, t'is me pleasure to share with ye and all o' me Mates on this site. TRAD is a Lab of British / Irish ancestry and though I am far from a purist in me employment of British training methods, I have studied and made use of some of the techniques more common to the UK.
I am happy that yiurself and others enjoy the adventures of TEAM TRAD and our Mates the DUBLIN DUCK DYNASTY. I will try and keep ye up on our rovings.
Cheers,

He does a good job. Lovely photos
Awesome pictures. Your description puts a video in my head and it's fun to read.
Daybreak has always been my favorite time of day. To be able to share it with an awesome dog and friends, you are truly blessed.
Love your reasoning for using all caps in TRAD's name.
